It surprised me at how much difference running an extra 30 secs is! Push through and feels great once done :)

Does any one half any advice for burning calves??? they feel very tight and like they are on fire - i manage to push through it but it would b better without it :) or is it just a case of my muscles are not used to it?

Thanks

Well done.

Be careful with the calves. I am doing calf stretches every day and they are definitely helping but if they are still tight on the day I am due to run I would take an extra day of rest. Warming up prior to your run should also help.

I have just finished week 3 and the difference in my calf muscles is ridiculous. They are so much bigger than just a few weeks ago and if I tense them they are pretty much rock solid. When your body is exposed to such rapid change/development some niggles are, I think, inevitable so best not to push it too hard.

thank you for reply - My calves dont feel tight untill i start running. Im putting it down to this being new for my body - also im very overweight so they are taking a pounding with each step haha. i will work on stretching and hopefully see an improvement over the next few weeks.

Thanks again

I found my calves hurt when I started C25K. I put special effort into the warm up and do calf stretching exercises when I'd finish each run. (I was advised not to do calf stretching before a run as it could be counter productive - stretching muscles that aren't properly warmed up can cause more harm than good).

I found that the burning sensation just about disappeared after week 4. Here's hoping the same will happen for you.

My legs were killing me for the first few weeks, but then the aches and pains magically disappeared. I think it's the same for most people. Don't worry about it, unless the pain is significant or persists, though. Injuries are easy to acquire, and hard to clear!

Agree with Steve_L & Dunder2004, I think it's just because it's so new for your body that you're bound to notice aches and pains, I've been going through various niggles, calves, shins, ankles but all seem to sort themselves out as your body gets used to this new thing called running!

thank you everyone - i thought this was probably the case but nice to be reassure by people who have been/going through it :)

Also, just go slower. The more time you give yourself, the less out of puff you'll be and so the anxiety will be less, and you'll feel more relaxed

Good luck

I find my calves hurt during the first run but as soon as I get to the first walk part it eases off.
