IC another update

Well, I think my last progress report was a bit premature, as the Achilles is still very tender. It’s a bit random, but definitely not right, and still has the bump on it. So I contacted my GP again via their online service (attaching a pic), to ask if I could have a physio appointment. She replied that she would refer me, and I got a letter today to contact the physio to make an appointment which is on Monday. Very frustrated, but also very impressed with the NHS service!

Wow you are lucky to get an appointment that quick.

I can normally see my GP within a day or two but referral to physio is weeks and when you want to move to the next level, as I have just done, the wait is three months.

Make the most of it.

Are you doing eccentric heel drops?

Yes, I’ve been doing the heel drops, and other stuff recommended by the GP. It’s weird as seems to improve, and then it’s really bad again.

I hope your physio appointment goes well. I think when you start running one of the 'qualifications ' you need is a PHD in patience. You know that if you don't give your injury enough time it will come back to bite you on the bahookie! So, take your time, take advantage of the good ol' NHS - where would we be without it? You'll come back stronger and keener which can only be a good thing!

If you have a small bump (I did) it's possible that you have a small tear and that take months to heal properly. Tendons are just very slow to get better because of the lack of blood flow.

Keep at with the eccentric heel drops, but prepare yourself for possibly a longer time out than you originally thought. Hang in there!

Me too, I had a bump which was scar tissue. Heel ok now but foot problems. Good luck Wenderwoo, sending healing vibes for a speedy recovery. xx

Oh, that sounds really frustrating. Good luck to you on Monday, it's great that you got that appointment! I haven't run for a week now (too much life getting in the way) and find it so hard to have to be patient.

I know this feeling! I'm wondering if I should just wait until all the festivities are over and then get back to it although I am running around like a headless chicken 😂

Sorry to hear you’re still having trouble ☹️ Glad doctor referred you - my gosh that’s super speedy our doctors take weeks just to get a referral!!

Our GP’s are pretty good in the grand scheme of things. They use a service called AskmyGP, which is basically email. But stops the surgery getting jammed.

Try gel heel cups. £5 for two pairs on amazon. Instant cure for my son and my friend who have Achilles issues. And try higher drop shoes next time you need to buy. Could’ve saved myself a fortune in physio sessions if I’d have known how different shoe drops effect different parts of the foot/leg.

Thanks, I just bought some, but haven’t tried them yet. 🤞🏼
