I was walking my dog yesterday and wondering if I would be able to do a run cos it was so slippery on the pavement. Anyway, I saw two separate runners who didn’t seem to be having any trouble at all. They seemed to be wearing very light shoes - not the sort of trainers I wear! Is this a Christmas present opportunity?

Perhaps ordinary trainers are better for running in icy weather than proper running shoes, maybe, not sure about that, I was out a short 3K run this morning with my proper running shoes, I just took it easy and made sure that I did not fall.

I bought some with Continental rubber on the soles to prevent slipping and so far they have been great, Adidas boost

Trail shoes are more likely to give you more grip than road shoes in wet conditions.

I've made the switch back to using my trail shoes. I don't really like using them for predominantly pavement runs as they aren't a cushioned as my road shoes, but I do fill a bit more securely planted in them.

When you say slippery do you mean ice? As a new runner I suggest you stick to grass or rough surfaces etc as ice is no match for any shoes when you are running- even crampons!!!
