Wk9 R1 - ouch!

Into my final week and 2 firsts for me.... 1/ running on ice. Never had that experience before. Not serious ice, but you know when the pavements are starting to glisten with frost? 2/ I'm hobbling around. Never had this after a run. My left Achilles is feeling very tight and I'm struggling to bend my foot without discomfort. Quite sure it will pass after a bit of rest, but I think I'll be taking 2 rest days before my next run.

Nearly there! 2 runs away.

Happy running everybody

Be very careful!! Don’t get injured now you’re so close! Try smaller strides I read a few days ago that it’s supposed to help - I only have a small stride anyway I think I’m scared of slipping in sludge! So now I’m going to say it to everyone might not make a difference but it’s worth a shot . 1 down 2 to go so get plenty of rest and ice it ?? (I’m not a doctor I have no idea) You can do it Mig 💪💪😁

Oh I'm taking no chances. 2 days off and see how it is. I think it will be absolutely fine with a bit of rest. If not, I'll just take another day.

So long as can avoid running on Christmas day, I'll be happy :-)

Oh I don’t know think I might enjoy escaping the madness. I usually drink while cooking so it’s going to be before that starts. I’m not a big drinker but on Christmas Day I make an exception 🎅🎄🎅🎄

I think you have to drink while cooking on Christmas day. Sometimes I even wait until after I've cooked breakfast 😆😆😆🥂

Why?

Only joking. I was just trying not to sound like an alcoholic.

Breakfast time IS mimosa time 😆🍾

Maybe you've ran a bit awkwardly due to the conditions. Hopefully with some rest it will be ok. The weeks have flew by. Good luck and well done 😊

Cheers. Yeah I'm not worried. No pain. Just feels very stiff.

Oooh, be careful - I expect you were a bit tense due to the ice. With only 2 runs to go until qualifying you don't want to be laid up. Take extra time, maybe planning what's next in your running plan.... ⛸🎿🛷

RunningMigsterGraduate in reply toapatsyf

I think that's probably exactly what happened. I bet I feel it tomorrow, but I'm sure it will be fine after an extra day

Oh no Mig - hope this isn’t going to stop you ! So close now not a normal achievement but up hill, rain and ice and in the dark that you run .

Blimey you have to get there !!

Here’s hoping you’ll be ok .

Waiting for the the post !!!!

Not going to stop me! Might be a day later than expected, but I'll do it! :-)

You are so close now so please pick your days and times to be safe. 👍 Rest days are so important to look after that tendon. Mineral Ice maybe? I hate slippy surfaces as they make me run weirdly! Perhaps that affected your run without realising it. Don’t let Christmas Day be the Holy Grail 🙏. Take care Mig

I think you're right. Still a bit tender this morning, but way better than last night!

Watch out for that migs, don't want you on the ic now!! Hope it feels better after a rest! 😊

Agree with all the comments, extra rest day and only go out if all feels well. Well done for completing.

Thank you. Extra rest day it is and maybe a slow, slow run 2

Go very slow and if in pain walk home, don’t make it worse or you could spend January with your feet up

Hope it heals soon

Feels so much better this morning thanks. Still tender, I know I need an extra day, but it seems to be doing ok

Hi

Once the ankle stops hurting u can try AHeel strengthening exercises. They work well. Whenever mine plays up I don't run again until there is no pain when walking. Sometimes that's a week but Im 10 yrs older than u. We're about to do Wk9 run 1 at similar times. Nice!

I'm going to take the next couple of days off and see how it is. I think my next run is going to be very slow and in dry, milder conditions :-)

Oh no, you really don't want an injury at this stage, take care.

RunningMigster profile image

It's all good thankfully. Nothing an extra rest day wont cure

Oh no so close. Take extra rest and sure you'll do it. I'm hoping to be done by Christmas as well. 2 runs to go. I would love to run Christmas day, by 20 to feed. Think I'll run away after. 🙆🏼‍♀️🥃🎄

Run on Christmas Eve and go back on Boxing day. Sounds like Christmas day is a task and a half

OMG, I cringed when I read this, but after I read the whole thread the cringing eased....... I have everything crossed that it’s just a tweak and the rest sorts it out. I’m so looking forward to seeing you graduate 😁

Awww thank you. Yeah, I'm def feeling the need to take an extra day. No pain, it's just a bit stiff. It's all good :-)

The extra day off should help. I'm almost certain that when "Graduation Day" rolls around, nothing will stop you from doing it (I went out in a torrential May downpour to complete mine).

Just be careful with the underfoot conditions; those fallen leaves can hide any number of less than pleasant surprises.

Good luck, I'm sure you'll smash it.

RunningMigster profile image
RunningMigsterGraduate in reply tosTrongFuse

To be honest, as well as being slippery underfoot, I tried to attack the hill with longer strides than normal.

I suspect I'm just paying the price. But, I'm sure an extra day off is all I need. I'll get this done by Christmas!

sTrongFuse profile image
sTrongFuseGraduate in reply toRunningMigster

And then you can use the consolidation period to run off the festive excesses... Good plan!

RunningMigster profile image
RunningMigsterGraduate in reply tosTrongFuse

Naturally, after spending 2 years thinking about doing this, I times this to perfection of course 😆😆😆
