I am rethinking my winter fitness plans as C 2 5K in autumn was nice, but I don't like the thought of a lot of icy running. Any thoughts, suggestions? I don't want to loose the fitness I just built up but I don't think I could do treadmill running 3x per week.

Off road....and just avoid icy runs... treadmill when necessary is better than no run ..

It's quite slippery where I am too - mud and ice. I won't run if it's icy but that's not normally for more than a day or two. But I've invested in some trail shoes for the slippery mud - much better treads for grip. Take care.
