Today is the day I started couch to 5k. I want to do this to be fitter for my little girl who is 19 months and set a good example for her. I also need to lose 8 stone so this is a start, combined with slimming world I hope will help. I also want to plan to try for another baby in 18 months time so plenty of reasons to start.
I found it very hard going, feeling my fat wobbling around and realising how unfit I am. I am hoping joining this message board will motivate me.

Congratulations on starting C25K with run 1 of week 1 and welcome to the forum, good luck for for all your runs combined with Slimming World, regarding your runs, take all of them slow and steady, no running on consecutive days, drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration, you can repeat any runs or week's if you wish to. 🏃🏾👍
Yer we can!!! I have 4 stone to lose and I want it gone by my birthday in April!! Let's smash it !! I'm doing my second run tomorrow morning. We got this 🏃♀️
I cant run Wednesday or Thursday as I am working 12 hour shifts and if I don't do it tomorrow i know i wont do it again. At least if i do it tomorrow i can then do it again friday as well. Then next week I'll reset Monday. Not very conventional but being a single mother working 12 hour shift I have to work it around my life rather than working my life around the run lol
Oh I feel for you that’s a tough schedule. Just take it nice and slow and you should be fine. I definitely don’t want to put you off so just do what you have to do 👍
It is really important to not run 2 days on the trot. Please leave 2 days rest instead. The rest days allow your body to repair the micro tears in the muscles that occur on each run.
I’m the same! I graduated last sept and have lost a few pounds but found I was ‘treating’ myself after my runs 😂 so wasn’t losing as much as I should have!! Take it slow and try not to do too much-don’t try and do more/go faster than you’re ready for, always stretch and when you’re ready, get fitted out with the comfiest trainers for your feet. This will help prevent any injury as running is a repetitive sport.
Ahhhhh thank you so so much for those kind words and encouragement. I am overwhelmed with the support already. Thank you also for telling me it was the hardest run, I did question myself when doing it, asking if I can do it I found it so tough tonight xxxx
Welcome and congratulations on getting started....I thought I was reasonably fit when I started the plan, but gosh, how I struggled with 1 minute runs ! Trust the plan. It will get easier and you will do it and you'll never look back....we're here to support you 🏃♂️🏃♀️
Well done pinkfairydust10! You're nailing it! You've already gone out and done the hardest one - now slow and steady and you'll be nipping around at parkrun in the New Year on Saturday mornings with the rest of us! Can't wait to follow your progress! Lots of water (I drink masses, always glugging away!) and enjoy your rest day tomorrow. I'm back out on Wednesday as well - I'll be thinking of you!
Omg thank you so so much. I really hope I can do park run one day, would love to. Thank you for all the advice. I will be thinking of you on Wednesday too xxxx
You will absolutely be doing parkrun! You can use it as one of your training runs each week- many people walk the 5k, some walk/run etc. Lots of walkers. I am a snail so I jog but I did my first 5k on week 3 by walk/running. It’s one of your 3 runs out of the way? I’d say go for it ASAP x
Wow thank you for the advice. I have always wanted to try park run, hope I Jane the confidence to try it soon.
Slow and steady. Keep on keeping on and with every step of every session you will achieve. Consistency I think will be the key. You not only can do it, you WILL do it whoever you run for. Well done on starting such an exciting journey. Allow yourself ups and downs but never give in and you'll do it!
Hi well done for making the decision to get fitter please remember it’s not about how fat you say you are it’s about the positive step to make changes for the better.
We all started at W1R1 me personally I’ve just completed W8R3 tonight & you too will get there, just don’t rush it Slow & steady 🐌 go at a snails pace all the way you can do this.. don’t worry about getting to the 5k mark it’s more about reaching 30mins of solid running 🏃🏽♀️ the 5k will come later on but fair play to ya if you get to the 5k in 30mins 😃
Remember this is - your new adventure
Your new beginning - your new life and as a member of SlimmingWorld myself you have made a excellent choice everything in moderation with steady exercise & your already winning 🙂🙂🙂
Well done on starting the c25k journey. You seem like you have all the motivation you need. Believe in your self and in the app because it really does work . Good luck
Great for getting started. Just go slow and slower again if needed and remember to drink lots of water per day and not just on run days about 2-3 litres.
C25k is an amazing plan and really does work you'll get lots of encouragement and support on here good luck 🤗🤗
Well done for starting, the first run is the hardest, lots of motivation and encouragement to be found here, post your runs and we will all cheer you on
I’ve loved c25k and this forum, i wish you luck it’s hard at the beginning but before you know it there will be no question of whether you will run or not you just will, yesterday i could have just come home from work in a heap of stress and wallowed but we went for a run and i got home with a grin on my face
Well done on starting. I have just started and completed w1d2. Actually really motivated atm so I'm praying it continues 🙏 good luck on your journey il be sure to follow your success x
Thank you so much and well done to you too! Am learning it is a battle with my brain to stay motivated as well as with my body! All in it together and we can motivate each other 😘
Well done pinkfairydust10. 👏👏👏. You did the hardest bit when you laced up your trainers and stepped outside.
I can't add much to all the wonderful advice you've already been given, except to reiterate, there is no race or competition here. Take each run slowly and take the whole programme slowly. Get used to listening to your body. If you need to try a run or a whole week again, don't be disheartened. There's no such thing as failure as long as you keep trying.
I am full of admiration for your attitude and motivation.
I’m on week three and loving it. Honestly I would not have believed I would have this much enthusiasm about exercising but I’m hooked 😄 congratulations on making the decision to give it a go, you will get loads of wonderful support in here.
Well done on your first run! You will do it, the hardest thing is starting it in the first place. Give yourself a pat on the back, and do your best to keep going. It's hard work, but really rewarding, it's amazing how good you can feel about yourself by doing this. Good luck for the rest of the journey.
That’s amazing, just getting going is the hardest part, every run is an achievement and it’s your run in your time!! C25k and slimming world is great, just make sure your eating enough of the right foods and drinking a lot to get you through the runs! I have a 20 month old and 5 year old, started c25k in Feb and love running now, slimming world is also great, you will be amazing👍😁
Thank you so much Gem, thank for you all the advice. Fitting in the runs around children is challenging, I am learning that as a mummy some ‘me’ time is so Important. Fingers crossed I can do it xxxx
Just don’t beat yourself up if you miss a run, I used to and it almost upset me that I couldn’t get out but someone on here said that the run is always waiting! I bought a treadmill to keep up weekly shorter runs then a longer run at the weekend, motivation in this miserable weather is what I find tricky, but stick with it...your amazing😉
The first time I did C25K (I've had to re-do it because of coming back from injury and illness) nothing would have got me out running in bad weather. Now a switch seems to have flipped in my brain and nothing much will stop me going out in the cold or rain. I just have to remember to put my contact lenses in or I can't see out of my glasses!
Well what a start, I joined slimming World last February 2018. Then decided I needed a challenge so in April 2018 I made that decision to start with the C25k. Best decision I ever made I got to target in December after loosing 7st. I completed the app in the July 2018. And now I've done a muddy run, I've joined a running club to keep me motivated. My next goal is running a half marathon by the time I'm 50 years old. It's helped with my asthma and I no longer take blood pressure tablets after 16 years of being on them. Remember why you started this journey when you feel you don't want to get out. Make yourself go you will feel so good after the weeks. And it really does work but the hard work comes from you. Good luck x
Wow Suzi, you have done amazingly! You are so inspiring. I love what you have gone onto after completing the app and all the health benefits you have achieved through your hard work. I felt the push I needed when I was getting out of breath going up the stairs. I don’t want my little one to have an unfit mummy.
You have done amazingly on slimming world, Just hoping I can do the same
Well done on starting the programme, it works! I am an older lady, but just on week 7. After week 1 I Couldn’t envisage I could run for 30 min, but I am up to 25 now and loving it. I know I will do it. Positive thinking and follow the advice. Remember to stretch before and after runs and take your rest days even if you want to do more.
Since Feb I have over this year lost 2.5 stone and reduced my blood sugar results so I am no longer diabetic through sensible eating and exercise. I use my fitness pal app to track food and exercise, helps a lot.
the first step is often the hardest and you have done that...well done!
Good luck. I started week 1 and by the 3rd run loved it. Had to stop for a bit as have hurt my knee. Cant wait to get started again. (Although I reckon each stage will take me several weeks at my age and weight).
You’ll have setbacks, good runs and rubbish runs, but you’ll get there. When you’re struggling, get straight back on this forum for brilliant advice and support. When you’re doing great, let us all know. We’re all cheering you on! Good luck to you x
Congratulations for starting and keep it going. Please don't judge yourself; you are doing great!! Enjoy the journey, you will have alot of support on this forum...keep going and good luck😊
Well done getting off the couch.I remember wk1 literally thought I was going to die 😂 I'm at wk8 now so if I can do it so can you! Just take it slowly it's not about how fast you go,Look forward to following your journey x
Congratulations at the start of your journey. I started C25k in July never having run in the past.... I think the cross country runs at school put me off. I’m 55 and completed the programme in September and now run 30 minutes three times a week... the mental and physical benefits have got me hooked. You won’t look back, take it slow and steady and you’ll smash it 👍
Novice64, I am in exactly the same place as you although older as am 62 and haven’t run since school. I can’t believe that I actually look forward to my 3 x 5km runs each week and feel so virtuous and angelic (and healthier) after each run!!
I love that feeling...I’ve done the C25K+ Stepping Stone podcast twice so far this week to try to increase my speed and distance. Onwards and upwards (I hope)=🙂
Hi pinkfairydust10! It is great that you have started on the road to fitness and that you have real goals to aim for. Just remember that it took you a long time to gain weight and become unfit so it will take even longer to lose the weight and become fit. One step at a time with realistic goals for each step will keep you motivated. Hope his forum helps you as much as it has helped me!!
Well done getting out there and joining the C25K family , just keep going your physical and mental health will get so much better as will your weight loss 🏃♂️👍
I think you have done the hardest bit which is overcoming the psychological gremlins that tell you not to do it, or not yet or that you can't.🐉🐲🐲The rest is just putting one foot in front of the other.
You’re a hero for doing this. You can definitely do it - trust the C25K process and it’ll get you there. Keep posting. Loads of support here and we’re all totally cheering you on. Go pinkfairydust10 👏👏👍
This board got me there after three attempts. I’ve also see I always had an issue with my weight and I now find I want to run more than eat 😀 so good luck believe in the program and it will change you and your little girls life
Stick with the plan, repeat those runs you feel you cheated on (I doubt I’m the only person who stopped occasionally even when Laura said to keep moving), follow the advice to run slow ...and slower still ... and I’m sure you’ll succeed. I’ve never run in my life and found the very first run almost impossible but after a few repeats I’ve just graduated and I’m so proud of myself. And I’ve found this message board really fantastic for advice and support and just helping me to feel that I am ok really - even when part of my brain delights in telling me at every turn that I’m rubbish!!
Welcome to the running world! I started c25k about 12months ago! I'm a 50yr old former heavy smoker and i couldn't run for more than 30secs when i started and now i run 5k 3 times a week and have never felt better! Trust me if i can do it you can too! Good luck
I'm only really repeating what everyone else has said but you've already earned a number of well done's. Firstly for deciding that you will do this (with a extra one for thinking of your motivation). Then a big WELL DONE (in capital letters too) for getting out of the door and starting your first run it really is a huge step to take. The next one is for joining this forum, the community is great. When you have a not so good day, just post on here and you'll receive great support & encouragement. When you do have a good day also post on here as that's great encouragement for everyone else. When I first heard about C25K I was convinced I would be running 5k within 9 weeks! Once I started week 1, I realised two important things. The program will get you running for 30 minutes (but it's unlikely you'll cover 5K in that time to start with). The other thing is that it's going to take me longer than 9 weeks! I'm quite happy to repeat runs until I can do them and even drop back a week (or more) if necessary to further build my stamina, and more importantly re-build my self-confidence (for me this challenge is at least 75% mental and only 25% physical). Keep working through this at your own pace, remember to drink & take rest days as everyone else has said and most importantly, listen to your body. Ache's are OK (well, inevitable!) but pain has to be avoided, that is not good. I look forward to reading about your progress...
Thank you so much for taking so much time to write such useful tips and advice. You have me nearly in tears, just feel like I am doing something for me and like you said the battle is mental as well as physical. I really appreciate it thank you so much xxxx
