WK1 Day1 where to start

Beccx profile image
14 Replies

I want to do this but keep putting up barriers mainly around not wanting to go out on my own. but I also know from previous experience this type of exercise is soo super easier as its cheap and should squeeze into the day somewhere.

I could do gym treadmill . I am trying to find ays to kick myself . desperately need to do something as turned into a couch potato.

where to start? is there a newbie page?

update:

I am sooooo thank fun for all of the support it helped me motivate and get out. it was a rough day and had a lot to fit in ..... but I brushed aside the excuses and thought of the kind support u all gave me , it helped motivate me . I did it !!! it as harder than I thought in the sense I expected the actual run to be easier but its ok my fitness levels are poop which s why I am here but strangely enough looking forward to the next one !!! and running with the app coach on makes so much difference. thank u all

Welcome to the forum and the program! And there are plenty of newbies here .

As well as more experienced runners but we will all be here to support you !

The first thing I would recommend would be to read the program guide here .

It's packed with helpful information to guide you through the program

healthunlocked.com/couchto5....

Then make sure you are well hydrated and just go out and give it a go !

Getting out to do that first run is probably the hardest part, but you have nothing to loose and absolutely everything to gain .

You can either do your runs inside or outside whichever suits you better !

Then come back here and tell us all about it 🙂

Go on, go for it and enjoy the journey!

It is here.. you are in the right place... welcome!

Please do read this essential post... so much useful information there.

healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

It will help you to get started, to keep going and hopefully keep you injury free.

Did you say you will be doing the whole thing on a TM or will you be venturing outside ? You may run on your own, but if you stay with us here, you will not be alone. There are so so many folk here, just beginning and running just as you will be. Just take a read of the posts!

Have a quick read of this too..

healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Some good tips here too !

Main thing... slow and steady, rest days are non negotiable, keep posting your runs for loads of encouragement and support and of course, enjoy!

Just one thing.. it may not always feel easy, but it will always be worth it!

Best of luck, the hardest part really is just getting out of the door and starting!!

Once you’ve managed that, have your headphones on and start slow running it will be worth it I am sure.

We have all been where you are, and we all started out at sometime or other. The thing that bonds us most on this forum is the knowledge that the C25K program absolutely works.

Ignore those inner doubts and give it a go, you will only find an encouraging community of fellow runners.

If you find you really don’t want to run alone there are usually local running clubs who have C25K groups starting all the time and always welcome new runners.

You go for it girl! You are only out of the house for a short while, then back home to contemplate your achievement. Then if you can do it once you can do it twice……….. I think it’s the feeling of exposure and drawing attention to myself that really bothered me but tbh no one cares. You can be in your own bubble, or smile at passers by and 9/10 times receive a happy response. Just remember who you are doing this for, and how much you are worth it, and soon the benefits will far outweigh all the doubts. Go on, you know you want to. The very best of luck. Please let us all know when you’ve done your first run 😊

Hi Beccx, 64 yo unfit male here, I've done all my runs on a treadmill at my local gym. I have to confess i started last summer but due to a family bereavement, Christmas, work, home life, grandchildren and a short bout of flu I have only reached week 7 run 3. The gym is not too high on my list of priorities, I still haven't run outside yet and had to keep going back a few weeks when i missed my sessions. I find the gym easier as I can set my own pace easier, no hills! Getting off my backside and going to the gym can be a struggle some days but week 1 run 1 is relatively easy (on a treadmill) and you can build up at your own pace on the treadmill. Good luck.

I'm still at the beginning (week 2) and was feeling just the same, hugely self-conscious and feeling like a complete idiot with my jogging, which is so slow I hardly move faster than walking . However, having done 6 sessions in total I must admit that I'm feeling a whole lot better now about being an idiotic-looking old woman jiggling along on my own. I get such a high from the exercise itself, even at this stage, that it outweighs the self-consciousness and I think "Sod 'em'. Go for it!

Follow the advice, (Instructor57), and just get out the door. There will be other challenging runs, but that first one is one of the hardest.

Hi, I started this in November then stopped over Christmas due to no time.......then I was unwell in January and just haven't got back out there. I have decided to start from the beginning but keep putting it off.....I could do with someone at the same level to compare notes etc with. Let me know if that might help you.

As others have said the hardest part is leaving the house. Nobody else really notices you so don't feel self conscious, And you're doing it for you not them. For me, at 63, the first 2 sessions were the hardest, I truly thought I was going to die from lack of breath and a pounding head. I didn't! But experience says I was going too fast for my fitness level. I swear by Japanese slow running and believe if my feet are moving I'm winning. It time that matters not distance at this stage.Finished the 9 weeks programme and felt sooooo proud of myself. Just do it.... Happy running. This forum will spur you on .
