Running after a heavy cold?

Morning hope it’s a glorious day where you are today - Autumn is in all it’s colourful glory here in South London.

My challenge is what to do when I am ready to run again. I have done weeks 1-8 so only 3 runs left to do - in theory.

But I haven’t run all week due to a heavy cold & tight wheezy chest. When I am better do I go back and re-do week 8 or just press on?

Please let me know what you would recommend, what you have done in similar circumstances.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you!

First run back be kind to yourself and if you feel like making it a warm up for your come back you could aim for15 mins then go back on to the program on your next run. You need to gauge how well recovered you are.

1 week off won't have much effect on your fitness but the cold may have taken a lot out of you.

Then try week 8, but if you feel like doing an extra 2 mins just add them on.

It took me 11 weeks to finish C25k. You'll do it no problem.

Thank you. That sounds like a sensible plan. Oh pleased to hear it took you longer than 9 weeks! It has taken me 10.5 weeks to get here and I am determined to finish. I am not a good ‘finisher’ better at being a starter! But I am going to finish this as so excited to see what else I could finish then! Happy Sunday 🤧

As BaddieThePirate says be kind to yourself it takes longer to be completely recovered than you realise, go for a walk and have a little running and see how you feel and walk if it feels too hard on your chest, you won’t have lost much fitness but you need to be well and not set of the chesty wheezing

Good luck

Get yourself better first , the running will wait . When you do try a short run and see from there what you can manage, all going well you could go back to where you were . Get well soon and good luck 😊😊
