We ran today for the first time ever with separate headphones and different music, Dire Straits is obviously a slower beat than Mary Chaplin Carpenter because I went on ahead.
My aim was to run for 30 minutes but was going so well that we kept going and including the walk each end covered 5k in 48 minutes
Iโm not competitive but do feel chuffed to be able to run for more than 5k
Both our blood pressures are now well within the normal range woo hoo
Going round and round the track we use gets a bit boring so we stretched out round the lake

Last day off so a soak in a hot bath then getting prepared to go back to work tomorrow
Thanks and we will, even though i include the walking each end of a run we knocked a minute of our 5k time and if we can knock a minute off every month or so iโll be happy
No matter what the music ๐ถthe main thing is that both of you enjoyed your run today, nice to know that you can run more than a 5K and also enjoy it. I am so happy to know that both your blood pressure is within the normal range๐
Stride is very important, someone could set the app at 190 BPM but not cover the distance that another runner sets it at 176.
When I got the app at first, I set it at 155 beats/steps a minute and ran a 5K in 52 minutes, three days earlier I walked that same route not using the app in a time of 48 minutes. ๐
I ran a 5k with the app set at 165 bpm the other day and got a best time of just under 36 mins. For tonight's 4k run (part of JuJu's magic plan in Bridge to 10k), I've got a long piece of music that I've adjusted the tempo to 170 bpm using Audacity. It drags a bit when you listen to it sitting down as it's at 216 bpm normally. But instrumental so doesn't sound too odd. [ Steve Reich - Music for 18 musicians - you either love it or it drives you mad!]
Mad, I heard a piece of "music" by Steve Reich on Sunday on Scala Radio, it went on and on, on 3 notes for around 15 minutes, I love classical music but not that.
There are more than 3 notes in Music for 18 musicians! It's the absolutely constant pace that makes it good for running. Also, to my ears it has an upbeat, uplifting quality. "Four Organs" is the most maddening - just one chord repeated over and over then spread out into its component notes.
To understand contemporary classical music ๐ถ I think a listener has to understand the composers motive on composing the work, Steve Reich's music is not exactly easy listening, I suppose a short piece by him is OK, but not a full concert.
This Friday evening I will be attending a symphony concert, the symphony is symphony No. 5 by the Finish composer Sibelius
I have a runner's playlist on Spotify that is based around 160 that works comfortably for me. Not all the songs are exactly 160, and if you look at the cadence on Strava or the Garmin app you can see where the song changes because the cadence changes on the graph! I think they range from 155 to 170.
Itโs great I could go longer now but Willow struggles to get past 30 minutes without walking a bit at the moment and then i think he gets a bit bored, he will sort out a play list that will keep him running
