Struggling after illness

Hi all, I was doing really well and really enjoying the running up to week 7 run 1when I was hit by an almighty cold. W7R1 was my slowest and then I had to take a week off because of the cold. I then recommenced and I was even slower for W7R2 and since then I have gradually speeded up. However, I'm now about to start week 9 and have developed chin splints. Any recommendations about what to do? Do info back a few weeks to build up again? I feel like I have come so far and it's all going a bit wrong.

Keep pushing, but for duration, not speed.....that is irrelevant.

Be kind to yourself after illness.........it takes longer to recover to perform strenuous physical exercise than to cope with daily tasks.

Shin splints are often caused by overstriding......... keep footfall under your body, not out in front.

There is other advice in the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5... on minimising impact.

This might also help runnersworld.com/shin-splints/

Thank you, this is really helpful. I will try to not be so disheartened, and carry on with week 9 - but slower!

Slow down, you have all the rest of your running career to think about speed. Take recovery time if your body is asking for it and enjoy the runs as runs, not races

Try and keep your pace slow and remember being unwell can really take it out of you . I found this video and it really helped. 😊😊
