Graduate advice?

Hi guys

I graduated a few weeks ago and have run twice a week since, my question is if i feel okay can I run 2 days in a row now? Or am I more likely to get injured? Just 20 - 30 min runs, i do yoga and some strength work throught the week too.

Thanks in advance

Not quite yet I'm afraid, it's still pretty new for your body, you would massively increase your chance of injury.

I'm almost up to 2 years now and I only very occasionally run on consecutive days and only then when I control the distance or pace.

I'll check the guidelines again but I'm pretty sure it's at least a year in.

Here you go...

The enthusiastic graduate also wants to start running every day but patience is essential here. The following article suggests having at least six months of running under your belt before starting to run on consecutive days, but if you read it carefully, that is if you are also doing plenty of aerobic strengthening work on non run days and it also states that the over 40s need to take extra care before increasing training load. ...

My advice is to be cautious here and wait for a year or so before running consecutive days. Even then, when you do start, never follow a hard run with a hard run on the following day, introduce the runs following the 10% rule regarding overall training load and have a rest day each week. Rest days from all strenuous physical exercise are essential. In fact many sources say that every runner should have a non running rest week every few months. In my experience you will return refreshed and reinvigorated. It is all too easy to “overtrain”, even running three days a week, so listen to that body and rest it.

Thank you very much, I'll have a good read of that!

I have been doing a mix of strength and conditioning training with a PT a few times a week for about 4 years, my general fitness is good, so not sure if that would make a difference. I always listen to my body -i think I just had such a good run last night that I wanted to repeat it tonight!! Haha.

Great advice, and fast, much appreciated.

Hi Beansy24 well done on your graduation....and I agree with all my fellow ambassador says...I know it’s tempting but, like GoGo_JoJo , I’ve been running for 2 years now and I wouldn’t unless I really had to x
