My first post ever of social media was two years ago (Entitled: My first post on any social media). At that time I had got as far as 25 minutes.
Later that year (2017) I achieved the full 30 and apart from holidays abroad in 2017 and 2018) am more or less regular, If I do miss any due to bad weather etc I encourage myself by reverting to 25 minutes for one run and than back to 25, it helps me to get where I want to be.
Now at 77, I am still able to complete the runs every time. I saw a question from someone that asks 'do you enjoy running while you are running', I must say I find it hard every time but I enjoy the scenery and the fact that if I push on I can complete it. The commentary in my ears, mixed with music helps. Also I recently listened to '13 minutes to the moon' episodes which kept my mind off the run, as I remember seeing this on black and white TV when it happened in 1969.
I am now one year on from a diagnosis of prostate cancer and the medical people do suggest exercise as a device to help one endure the fatigue you get from hormone therapy and radiotherapy. It doesn't seem logical that exercise helps you overcome that! But I am sure it helps. I have been in remission for some months but next week will find out what is happening inside. I am glad I was already doing the running before I had my diagnosis.
As you can see from the above I am not really one to keep on posting, my main reason is simply to encourage others who, for whatever reason, feel unable to face the prospect of running for 30 minutes, I felt the same at the beginning. I really do feel that this programme has helped me a lot, not only physically. Although I do not have any mental problems, I do think that this has made me feel better about myself, I hope it helps others as much as it helps me.
It's very grey outside but I am about to get my trainers on and hope to keep dry....

I'm glad you already have your running in place to hopefully help you through a difficult time and that you get a good report back next month from the hospital. Good luck 😊
That was a lovely encouraging post and I enjoyed reading it. Good that you are still running and that it is helping you through the health issues. I hope the cancer will continue to be in remission. Enjoy the run and hope the rain holds off. Please don't leave it 2 years before posting again 😊
That is definitely an encouraging post. Hope your results are good. My father 88 is still very active and has been surviving with prostate and bowel cancer for over 10 years - positive outlook and activity must help. Keep up the good work x
Wow Vintage1942 , just wow...you are absolutely amazing...not only because you are 77 and still running, but because of what you've been through...what an inspiration you are?! If you do ever feel like posting on social media for a third time, feel free for it to be on here because you will have touched many a soul and put things into perspective for a lot of people, including me, so thankyou for your 2nd social media post and I hope you get a good report from the hospital next week...I've got everything crossed xx
Now, please post more than every 2 years! I just had to go read your first post too. 2 years, and 2 very inspirational posts, we need more and more of this!
We often get the question “am I mad for starting this at my age?” Anyone reading your posts can see the answer right there in front of them.
Very belated congratulations from me on graduating C25K and very well done maintaining your running throughout your situation.
