Now that the dark nights are closing in I am becoming more and more aware of how vulnerable I am on the runs near my home. I won't have the option of running during daylight other than a weekend so my partner suggested I try the local harriers running club.
I contacted them and advised them as to the distance and speed I am running (I start Week 9 next week) and they responded very positively with advice as to which evening would be best for me based on my current level. All positive so far.... however I am a little bit nervous that they will take a look at my 'running' and not think I am good enough or that I simply won't be able to keep up.
Also, are the club get togethers really competitive and based on challenging everyone or are they more just a friendly run together?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If it's a running club then it will cater for all levels from beginners to experienced, if you fancy it then go for it.
Definitely give it a go. If it's a good club it will be welcoming and accomodating to everyone, whatever level they're at.
If you find it's not for you, try another group. I don't know what your local area is like, but there's a whole variety of different running clubs in Plymouth. Some focus on races and training, others focus on getting fitter, while some are just about running together and socialising.
I have been thinking about doing the same, & felt unsure like you. If you know others who run they may have a recommended club. Give it a go & see how you feel! 😀
I think this sounds like a brilliant idea. A chance to run safely and to meet new, like minded people. What’s not to like? Give it a go and let us know how you get on?
