IT band problems

I had a week off running last week, since I have been running I’ve had pain in my one leg (6weeks) I seen a sports therapist who done a deep tissue massage and stretched it out for me. (Very painful!) He said it was my IT band that was causing the pain in my leg, he gave me some stretches to do before and after a run so 🤞🤞. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem? Thanks :)

IT band issues are quite common. I have trouble from time to time but good stretching routines will definitely help over time. You can learn to massage that area yourself as well which can help relax it.

It is definitely worth having regular sports massages if that's feasible. I go every month. 👍🏻

I do go every month for my back but will get him to do my leg every time now too :) it has helped a bit, was only a little bit sore when I ran tonight but I think that maybe the 6 weeks worth of running I have done on it. Will look at more stretches :) xx

Foam roller can also be very good for IT issues. Also make sure you're doing a good warm up walk before your run, could be worth extending the 5 mins by a few more mins giving it chance to warm and loosen.

I had this for the first time a couple of weeks ago on a long run. Bl**dy painful. There are some good stretch routines on YouTube, probably similar to your physio’s. Take it easy - it’s a really long muscle.

I've had it and took a month off running to let it settle, along with sports massages. Also, stretch stretch stretch!
