So gutted. Did my first consolidation run yesterday and about an hour afterwards I started getting pain in my right knee π amazed I managed to get this far without my knees throwing a spanner in the works but from googling this pain I think I may have to take it seriously. Pain is on the outer edge of my knee and there's some swelling. Nothing dramatic but it hurts when I'm moving about. Not really sure where to start with my knees, there's a few historic issues and injuries and more recently osteoarthritis diagnosis. Dr Google is confusing π but I don't have money for private physio. So, my plan is to rest up, RICE and see GP if it hasn't improved in the next few days.
IT band syndrome? : So gutted. Did my first... - Couch to 5K
IT band syndrome?
I would get signed up for your NHS physio asap.
You may well have to wait quite some time, but you can always cancel if it clears up.
In general terms, we highly recommend doing knee strengthening exercises such as nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/k... and reducing impact, as described in the guide to the plan.
Take care.
Thanks, I will have a go at the exercises (I am already doing some and I recognise some from previous physio so they should be safe to do). I guess this is not the place to comment on NHS physio service. I will speak to GP to see if things have changed but recent experience was incredibly poor so I am in no rush to go back π
Book your gp now and ask for physio. I've suffered this pain for years and running has helped reduce it - I think due to the gradual build up. Bad luck to get it at this stage. It can come on from running downhill and on a camber. Hope gp can fix something up for you. Plenty rest and RICE over next few days. Good luck
Thanks, I will. I have been making sure to avoid running downhill as my knees don't like it (uphill is OK) but I did briefly run downhill while staying at my mum's last week π€
Sorry to hear that, I was lucky enough to see someone but it was a really brief, basic appointment and it was tough for him to assess in that time let alone make a treatment plan. He wasn't equipped to help me and gave me inappropriate exercises I knew would aggravate my problem (since confirmed this with another physio). Fingers crossed for the new year, I really hope I can continue running and I hope you are able to get some help too. Determined to keep up some level of fitness so if I have to I will switch to swimming and work on building my strength πͺ let's do this π happy new year!
