Had a gait analysis done this morning by a very knowledgeable gentleman - at least he seemed to be. Had me walking barefoot up and down the shop before telling me that my right shoulder is quite a bit lower than my left. This may explain why I am getting more pain in my right leg than left when running (and why I have been going round in circles) more weight pushing down through the right side of my body. He recommended I see a sports physio. He also sold me a 120 pound pair of Brooks running shoes after a session on the treadmill with them on. It was more than I was intending to pay but considering their prices started at a hundred then I suppose it's not too bad. Just hope the price is justifiable when running, if it helps with the shin splints and calf muscle pain then it will be worth it. First run with them on tomorrow hopefully
Turns out I'm lopsided: Had a gait analysis done... - Couch to 5K
Turns out I'm lopsided
Well yes, if there is a length or alignment issue you're definitely going to get some pain.
I would definitely see a physio. It might be something you can sort with exercises or you might need an insole in one or both shoes to level you out ๐ค๐ป
Welcome to the lop-sided club. I didn't know it until I went to my GP with sore knees again at the age of 45 - had dodgy left knee for 20+ yrs, and no running in all that time. He gave the names of some sports physios... the one I chose, took 1 look at me and had me diagnosed in less than 5 minutes. I'm wonky. One foot over-pronates, the other over-supinates (I'd had a sore foot too - same side as the knee). She referred me to her in-house podiatrist... a few weeks later I had my 1st pair of custom-made orthotics (insoles) and I've never looked back. C25K followed, the London Marathon 3 years later ... knees & feet have been great ever since.
Hi Perry-Formis , I would def see a sports therapist to work on that...as for you Brooks, if the bloke you spoke to was as good as you say, and he sounds it, Iโm sure youโll have many happy miles in them ๐
Iโm on my second pair of Brooks. I had an expensive New Balance runners before which were neutral. I used to get pins and needles in my feet after a run. After a gait analysis I chose brooks as they were the most comfy. Iโm almost ready for my 3rd pair. I donโt mind spending money on the right running shoes as it leads to 800 kilometres of running, parkruns, 5K, 6K and 10K road races.

There's nothing like an expensive pair of running shoes to concentrate the mind. Gotta keep going now! ๐
Well I like my Brooks shoes, so hope you do too. My lopsided stance took professional help to sort out & life is now loads better. Go for it! ๐
Many of us......if not most of us......are asymmetical........and an awareness can help you strengthen any areas of weakness.
If the shoes work out well for you, then look out for your next pair in the end of season sales when you can often pick them up at half price.
Gait analysis is always worth it, in my opinion.
Hope you enjoy your shoes and that you can now run in a straight line ๐๐
๐ I hope so too. The constant dizziness was getting me down.
