Hello Runners!!

Welcome to the Last week of AUGUST on the Quest!

I simply cannot believe it...where did those months go to?

It has been very warm these last few days... welcome for some but not for all!

I have enjoyed it, but running yesterday morning was a tad tricky... and sticky! :)

I am getting ready for a Spitfire Run next Sunday...s warm or not I was out there:)

The C25K Quest which has been up and running, ( pardon the pun) for a while now and is proving to be very useful...but it would be great to see a few more new C25K Graduates joining in.

You can join in this week and then join the NEW QUEST for SEPTEMBER!!

This is a great place to think, where you want to move forward to from C25K...

It is apparent from many of the posts which we reply to, that folk may feel a little lost after Graduation.

It is tempting to move on too quickly after Graduation, and quite a few folk feel that they take backward steps or are doing something wrong when things don't progress as they think they should.

This is a terrific place to find the advice you need, read other folks' goals, and to encourage each other as you move on to the next running adventure. Listen to some of the seasoned Graduates too, they are a bit further on in their adventures and may be able to give you more in-depth information:)

So please feel free to join in if you have graduated. We will be running these Quests every month, updating weekly, so don’t worry you can join in any time after Graduation, it doesn’t matter when it is even if it is just for the last week.

Also please join if you have graduated and are on the IC, We have found reading and supporting other runners when we are on the IC helps to keep motivation up and helps to still feel part of this community so if you are on the IC put your name down, we will support you all the way back to your first recovery run.

Here is the explanation of what the Quest is.

WHAT THE QUEST IS:

The Quest lasts for a calendar month

You can join any time within that time.

The main aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

We ask that you are a GRADUATE.

The main reason we ask this is that while you are doing the programme your plan is very structured, so we wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:-

To run three times a week

- Different distances maybe and with 30 minute runs in there

To slowly increase distance

To train, ultimately, for a specific race

To add In Stretch and strength exercises

As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.

Every week we will pin a new post where all the members of the Quest can talk about how things are going.

Our advice to you, is to make your goals achievable, as it is very easy to get discouraged if you aim too high. It is better to aim a little lower and feel great at the end of the Quest and add some more in for the next Quest. Motivation is at its best when you feel a sense of achievement through something you are trying to do.

OUR OTHER FORUMS

Please don’t forget that all the forums are here for your benefit. They are set up to help with questions and queries as your progress on your running journey. Feel free to join any or all. You will find different levels of help on each forum, so well worth a look around.

We have the Bridge to 10K - this forum is for runners who need a little bit more technical advice than that, offered on the C25K.

healthunlocked.com/bridgeto10k

We have the Marathon Running and Race support.

Again this is another step up in the type of advice that is offered and it is there if you should ever need it.

healthunlocked.com/marathon...

We have the Strength and Flex forum, which is set up to help you with the NHS stretches and strength workouts. Squats, lunges and the like are all in these programs.

healthunlocked.com/strength...

We also have the Active 10 which used to be called Walking for Health. It is a great forum for sharing your walks on your days off or if you are on the Injury Couch.

healthunlocked.com/active10

Please feel free to have a look round all the forums but also keep in mind we need YOUR help for new runners, so you can support and encourage them on the C25K forum as they learn to run, so they can come and join us on these Quests once they have graduated.

So, PLEASE do come and join the Quest...Your Forum Needs You!

Do take extra care while the weather is warm and check out the linked posts about hydration, which is important all the time but especially now!

Happy running to you all... stay safe and stay running:)

I need to get 3 runs in per week. So far only managed 2. I also need to start some strength training 🧸

Hello Oldfloss, looking back over the last four weeks I have only been able to achieve an average of 2 runs a week due to other things going on but I have run 56 kms so far so I’m happy with that. Pilates classes have been equally sporadic. It has been hot running but I’ve done a trial run in a hydration vest which proved useful for onboard water. Cooler running in September will be most welcome while training for the Great South Run.

Thank you for looking after us throughout the holiday season.

That is all sounding really positive. We run when we are able. I find my hydration vest a real bonus! Well done you!

Hello Oldfloss! I graduated a couple of weeks ago and have been consolidating. In the first few days after graduation I had a feeling of ‘oh well, done that, I’m a runner now’. I then came back into the real world and decided that actually I need to crack on with it, the plan is really only the foundation course! So I decided to consolidate as per plan, ie 3x a week for 3 weeks then start to increase time and speed (Dexy5 will confirm how slow I am!). Though I’ve already spotted that I’m going further in my 30 minutes and yesterday I did 35 minutes running just because I could! So that the goal - a little more time and speed! Happy running all!

Hi old floss

I graduated ju- ju’s Running plan a few weeks back, my running over the summer was sporadic due to coverage of work shifts plus a holiday, I really need to get my mojo back, the thing for me is I can run and chat with friends and put in an easy 6 miles, once I enter for a race the gremlins get inside my head and I start doubting myself and I get really bad times, for me, I’m out again on Wednesday, I’ll let you know how I get on!

This is all sounding good... I do know what you mean.. I know I can run for 10K..up hills and down dales, in a reasonable time for an old 'un... but a race... hmmmm.

But we can do this... we can!

Get out there Wednesday and I will run with you...and you can run my Spitfire run with me on Sunday... we will keep each other going...:)

Go you!

Thanks for the words , think I might hang fire on races for a while and run for the pure enjoyment of it!! On another note all the peeps out in running land, keep the fingers and toes crossed for a pal of mine, she’s doing great north run next month, she has trained so hard and within the last week has damaged her achillea, we’re all hoping and praying that she’s able to do it 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Floss we’re meeting at 6am, see you bright and breezy 👍😁
