Photos from your run

I have often wondered how you take the fantastic photos that some of you post. I never take pix while I’m out running because I don’t want to stop. Do you manage to take them as you run, or are they just start or end points? I think I’m too clumsy to pull my phone out and try to aim in the right direction while I’m moving, and I try to run without stopping (is there a technique for stopping and starting that doesn’t break momentum or pace?)

Any tips? I run in some beautiful countryside and with autumn coming it will be looking lovely.

Thanks.

Love Lizz xxxx

You are allowed to stop........

It feels like cheating... 😗

And more seriously it does upset my rhythm. Maybe I’m just not ready to photograph my run route yet.

I dont really take a lot of photos, but those that I do are always before or after a run - there is no way I would be able to be still enough while running to get a good pic! Also my pics usually also include the dog as she is easily the prettiest thing on my runs and it takes a bit of effort to get her to stay still :)

I stop, take a quick pic then on again. Not really any different to stopping to cross a road etc

My rule for me is the pic has to be worth the stop. I'm not allowed to stop because I'm pooped and the pic taking is an excuse. Does that make sense? :)

Perfectly. I avoid crossing roads, so I don’t have that excuse. Xxx

Yes, but my body, not so much. 😁

I take photos at the end. I did stop once to take one, but felt guilty! ;-)

Yes, exactly. I’ll maybe remember where the lovely view is and walk to it or drive past it on a non-run day if I have time. Xxx

I work all over the UK so I’m always running somewhere new. It only takes 5 seconds to stop, take the photo and then start again. I used to see it as cheating but like it’s already been said, it’s just like waiting to cross a road.

I’m in danger of too much self-analysis here, but I spent my entire childhood being told off so I do carry a lot of guilt to this day. I think I’ll try to be really selective and only stop if the view and the unrepeatable play of light are extraordinary.

If I ran all over the place, I’m sure I‘d do as you do- those would be a one-time-only sight.

Xxx

You don't jog on the spot whilst waiting? 😁

Yes, if there is a real need to stop, but I couldn’t take a photo at the same time! Xxx

I take pics during the warm up or cool down walk our brisk walking allows me to snap a pic then move forward a bit more briskly to catch up my partner

Any I take are at the end, I also have issues with stopping, but I'm trying to resolve them!☹

I love taking photos on my run. I take them before, during and after. If I feel there's a shot worthy of taking during the run, then I slow down (even more) take one photo and carry on. My phone camera has a stabiliser in it so it doesn't look too shaky. 📸

You could also look at the Jeff Galloway interval method of training, which is run-walk-run, and how a lot of folks get round the marathons they run. It’s not dissimilar to the later C25K weeks of training where the runs start to be longer than the walks. You’ll see it referred to as ‘jeffing’. I do both jeffing and continuous running. Like you, I felt stopping was cheating, but it’s great for building endurance, and for taking photographs!

Thank you Tulipcat, I’ll definitely have a look at that. It might also help me get faster, so win-win. Xxx
