W6r3 tomorrow - shoulder pain causing some concern

So I’ve noticed that I’m getting some shoulder and neck pain after running. At first I didn’t put the 2 together it then noticed a pattern. And it turns out to be a thing. I’ve watched some videos on improving posture when running and run 2 wasn’t too bad but I’m worried there’s some damage as it’s been a couple of days since my last run and my neck/should is quite tight. I’ve also been doing some gentle stretching for the last couple of days to try and help it out a bit. Anyone else found this ailment and if so what did you do to reduce it? I don’t want it to scare me into stopping running ☹️

Usually any neck and shoulder pain connected with running is because there is too much tension when running. Try and keep your shoulders and arms relaxed and see if it helps😊

Hi Buddy. I tried to keep my arms and shoulders relaxed on my last run. Was a bit better so will keep trying to remember to do it 🙈😂

It just takes practice . I think we learn something all the time no matter what stage we are at 😊

True Buddy. It took me weeks to realise the 2 might be connected! At least I’m a bit more aware now 😊

Your hands, arms, neck and shoulders need to be relaxed when you run.

Hands unclenched, elbows loosely bent and swinging naturally with your stride, shoulders back, head up.

Are you carrying anything in your hands? This can lead to asymmetric tensions.

I’m wondering if holding onto my dogs lead is causing problems too. It’s an extendable lead and the dog does run around a bit 🤷‍♀️. Thanks for the reply 😊

Try some YTW exercises to loosen the shoulders and upper back and help to strengthen them... do these stood up and slowly to start.

I don’t bring my arms to my side, I bring them to the front with arms straight and hands touching... I also don’t snap into the W like the woman in the video, I think it’s better controlled. The video does show the idea though. After a while you can add some light dumbbells, or as a free option, a tin of beans to each hand for a little more resistance.
