Can't believe I've just run for 20 minutes solid! I had to take a week off from running as I had a sore knee that I need to rest, which was really annoying. But this morning I went out and ran for 20 minutes in the pouring rain and I'm so excited to have done the 'dreaded' W5R3 without stopping. I honestly thought I'd struggle and have to walk for at least a few seconds around the 10-minute mark, but it was actually fine. Seems incredible considering I'm four-and-a-half stone overweight and only a few short weeks ago couldn't even run for a single minute.
I found the first three weeks of this programme really, really hard - I couldn't even manage a minute's running at first, had terrible knee and shin pain and my foot kept going numb. I had to repeat so many runs! But at the start of week 4 it somehow all just came together. So - if you're just starting and finding it really hard, keep trying! I promise it gets better.

That’s so fantastic! First the getting to 20 whole blooming minutes of actual running! And persevering and it feeling easier.
I bang on about this all the time but if you find yourself struggling as the durations increase you could try the Japanese slow jogging technique - it’s a low impact style of running, I first saw it in w6 and still run this way all the time because I love it!
As you say, it does get better, congratulations on completing run 3 of week 5, that is a milestone run with C25K, onwards and upwards to week 6 run 1 but be careful about that run as it catches out some people with the interval walks and runs after the non stop 20 minutes of W5R3 which you have just ran. Even today there have been a few runners saying how hard runs 1 and 2 of week 6 are. Take those two runs of week 6 particularly slow and steady.
Well done! I’m on week 5 and did run 2 last night, I really thought running 2 lots of 8 minutes would be to hard, BUT it was ok and the first run I could of carried on. I really felt I had achieved something, because I too need to lose about 3 stone. I must admit I’m really enjoying running(well more of a slow jog really!) keep going, you’re doing great x
