Week9run2 done!!!! But tired for the rest of the day...

Yayyyy, about to graduate!!!! It was a tough run as I felt rubbish but with the mentality of I will do it, I even did just a shy of 4k in 30 minutes!!! . No idea how you do 5k in 30 minutes!!! After graduation I think my plan is to increase a bit of speed, hopefully doing 4.5k in 30 minutes. I don't know if it is achievable, but everyone here in Spain seems to run faster and are very slim! 😩.... The only thing I have found is running early is a good thing, but I find myself tired after the run looking after kids. Any ideas how to deal with it?

Hi. Pinkypimkie. Very well done with the run. It IS tiring, but it will pay off in other ways. As you get steadily fitter you will feel physically stronger and mentally sharper. So on run days I feel both more tired but more healthy and alive. Keep drinking water and if you can have an earlier night every now and then it will help.

Thank you. I hope so lol....

Wow ! You’re doing so well ⭐️ Can you squeeze in a siesta somewhere ?

in reply toButtercupKid

Thank you so much!!! I sometimes can manage a 10 min siesta.... Better than nothing really...

Well done you!! Not sure how old your kids are but maybe they could run with you for a little bit and tire them out too?? 🤣 Seriously though, drink lots of water and get as much sleep as possible. And if you feel you need it take a couple of rest days between runs, that's what I did leading up to my graduation, there was no way I could have done every other day but taking two or sometimes three rest days worked for me.

Get the bubbly ready for your graduation 😁

Thank you!!! Lovely idea about my kids running with me, but they are small, 6 years old and 2 years old... The eldest just manages to run 1 km most so not ready yet... I am having rest between days usually two, I can't do alternate days but I do long walks usually around 10 k mark, so that also may have contributed to my tiredness... 😩

Yeah all my days whether they are rest days or run days involve long dog walks, after a full day's work. Any idea why we might be tired?!! 😂 More sleep is the answer. Just never seem to get round to it!

in reply toOddity

Well, sleep is the answer yes! Or siestas! Lol. Anyway I'm interested in your opinion... Does long walks contribute to better running or does it stunt, not sure....

I honestly have no idea but it certainly helps with the fitness. I have to walk my pooch so I don't have any other option. But being tired definitely is going to have an adverse effect on the running, that's why I love weekends because I can do the run first!

And siestas? All in favour of them, just a shame my boss isn't 🤣 I've recently started sneaking in a Sunday afternoon snooze!

in reply toOddity

You never know, you may start a trend at work lol, if you cite a long list of benefit of siestas at work, your boss may even like the idea!!! It is one of things I would like the UK to catch up on! 🤣

Great job. The next run is the celebration of all your hard work, so relax, slow down a little, enjoy every step... and that’s part of the way to get to 4.5k in 30 minutes further down the road. Slow down to speed up is a good mantra, we don’t need the same pace every day.

The other runners you see may have advantages like they’ve been doing it longer, or they run a lot further. I’ve been running a year, and a guy in my age group is a fair bit faster than me every week, our builds are similar. Of course I didn’t run when I was 20-46 and he did... and I don’t run 13.1 miles before work Monday to Friday... so he has some advantages that I can never match... still, he will get a little injury at some point and then I can get past him 🤣

in reply toUnfitNoMore

Lol, I'm sure you will pass him at one point!!! There is a lady similar build than mine and she is super fast, but then again, I think she is doing around 10k mark... Oh I will be that person I hope lol, but like you, steady wins the race. I can't risk an injury with two boys I have... Thank you!!
