Rest of the day after a run

I'm 5 weeks in now but everytime I run it writes the rest of the day off. I sit in my recliner and I cant move much. I've started timing my runs for much later in the day now as if I do it early I'm useless as work (self employed electrician).

How does everyone else manage for the rest of the day after a run

It absolutely should not take all your energy... are you pushing too hard?

You should feel pretty much the same as if you'd just done a walk of slightly longer distance.

Do read the guide and make sure you're not pushing too much healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

As above, half hour gentle running shouldn’t knacker you out, slow down

I agree with GoGo_JoJo . Make sure you are running slow and also drinking lots of water 7 days a week and not just on run days. 😊

I'm 36 years old. Do alot of inline skating and roller hockey without any trouble but I've never been able to run. I'm doing around 12 min miles running and 18 min miles walking. My legs just seize up for the day afterwards

Have a google of Japanese Slow Running technique to find a useful video on YouTube. No need to be flattened! 👍

I think sometimes running can boost energy for the rest of the day. But there are days when it whacks you out. Are you drinking enough and eating something after your run? Plenty of water might help?

I easily drink at least 5 pints of just cold filtered water from the fridge a day plus I always have a protein shake post run.

I did try and 5k with no training a couple months ago. Did the first mile in 8 mins and then limped through the next two to finish in 38 mins and couldn't walk much for 3 days after so I thought the couch to 5k app would be a better approach to being able to run but every single run is a struggle on my legs. Breathing not so bad as I'm not that unfit. I've been out of breath at the end of some stints but not regularly

Can’t you run in the evening? Seems like that would be the perfect solution.

I used to find myself dozing off at morning coffee break at first but if you keep moving you will be invigorated.

I've been doing it at night (7pm ish), then I can have a shower and not move for the rest of the night!

Is it tiredness or extreme relaxation? My version of the “runners’ high” is feeling so chilled out I can’t be bothered doing anything else!

Yeah, I find it easy to 'reward ' myself with a good sit down. I've been trying to avoid it by scheduling runs before something else I can't get out of.

My whole body is completely chilled after a run. It may be that I'm just to comfortable to want to move. I'm just going to have to do it late in the day before daylight fades which at the moment it gets dark just before 5. I don't live near a town so I've been using sloping country lanes
