Should I book a 5k race?

Good Evening everybody!

I hope you’ve all had an amazing day.

My next run is going to be Week 6, Run 2 which I’m very excited about and I can’t believe that I only have 11 runs until I complete the Couch 2 5k app.

I’ve just listened to a podcast about couch 2 5k, where the presenter says that it makes sense to book a race as your first proper 5k!

Can anybody give their views? I’ve seen a few races that I’d love to do (Run through) but just wanted to get some insight from others!

Thanks so much :)

Yeah, go for it! I think booking a race keeps you motivated, gives you something to aim for.

Have you tried Parkrun yet? That's free, and it's a great running community. You're running with people, there's no pressure, and there's usually running clubs there and information about what's happening in your area.

Good luck! 😀

Yeah I would register and do a Parkrun. You could do it as your graduation run or a week after. As said it’s free. Also there is a nice atmosphere and there are people there of all abilities, some run super fast, some in 30 mins and some run and walk or walk it all. Whereas a 5K race is usually quite fast, everyone is running and it can be a bit of a shock especially your first one. Once you do a few Parkruns you can register for a 5K race, they are a nice way of getting T-Shirts.

You do hint Damien that there is a difference between a 5K parkrun and a 5K race where you have to pay, get a number and a chip somewhere on your self, now I think it's where your number is, I am just wondering after I have done several parkruns if the 'atmosphere' at a pay type 5K run/race is as friendly as at a parkrun.

Always... an event run gives you something to train for and really helps maintain the purpose upon graduating... some find it strange to no longer have a focus.

I booked a 5k which I did in lieu of the final couch to 5k programme run! It was tough but mainly because of the heat! I was doing just over 4K in 30 mins by the beginning of week 9 so 5k wasn’t too much of a stretch. It was a great atmosphere and absolutely brilliant feeling at the end! Do it, you’ll love it and you’ll be great!

Well your choice...but I would just run....a 5K... on my own.no pressure... and enjoy!

But as a lone runner... in the depths of winter./.December the 17th... my Graduation 5K was at 6.30 in the morning... and there were not many races happening:) It was blooming brilliant!
