Major setback and feeling demotivatedšŸ˜ž

Hey guys!

So from the title you can probably gather Iā€™m not feeling too greatšŸ™„ I was supposed to do W6R2 yesterday but hurt my back at work Monday so didnā€™t want to risk making it worse. Now I just feel like an absolutely failure and worried that my next run will be really hard as Iā€™m having a few days off. Iā€™m planning to go for it Saturday morning, Iā€™ve been doing stretches and taking pain relief when required so hopefully Iā€™ll be better soonšŸ¤žšŸ¼

Words of motivation are widely acceptedšŸ˜‚

A few days off wonā€™t be any problem. Rest up and take it easy. Your doing the right thing. Try again on Saturday and see how you get on.

I feel your pain. I hurt my back last year and had to take 6 months off from running. But I came back faster and stronger. Youā€™ll be fine.

Damien

Thank you! It seems to have eased off a bit since Monday so fingers crossed itā€™ll be better soon. Thank you Damien. Iā€™m glad you came back from your injury!

It takes around two weeks to start losing fitness, so donā€™t worry - look after yourself and youā€™ll come back fitter and stronger x

As long as you have no pain come Saturday you should be able to run without any problems . Don't worry the run will be there waiting for you. Good luck šŸ˜Š

Iā€™ve just had 2 weeks holiday with no running and was really worried about starting again week 7//1 - but it was fine and not at all as Iā€™d built it up in my head. So as long as you take care of your back, youā€™re going to be great.

Thank you, this is encouraging as Iā€™m going away next year for a week literally a month before race for life!

As the others say youā€™ll be fine in terms of fitness. May I suggest that when you return to running you try this low impact style of running - the Japanese slow jogging technique? Itā€™s designed to avoid injury, so although you didnā€™t hurt yourself running, it might help ease you back in. I think itā€™s a great technique for many of us to learn even if you donā€™t want to run this way all the time. Itā€™s great for when itā€™s too hot, after a break or injury, and brilliant (when the time comes) for attempting your first longer runs. And brilliant for building strength and stamina. I run this way all the time, because it makes the running pleasurable in the moment.

Itā€™s worth watching the film a few times as there are several aspects to it - itā€™s not just slow, itā€™s about a particular soft landing, mid foot strike & short stride. Hope it helps!

Hey Georgie, please donā€™t get too despondent. Lots of people here to support you through the good times and celebrate your good runs. Perhaps your body is telling you to take it easy on yourself. Youā€™ll be back doing it. The fact you are on here reaching out shows you care and really want to get to 5k .. which you will. Please look after yourself and push through those barriers which are always gonna come along from time to time. We are all behind you šŸ‘šŸ»

Hey! Thank you so much. I think maybe I needed an extra few rest days and Iā€™m sure Saturday itā€™ll get better!

Thatā€™s such a shame RunningStN but youā€™re doing the right thing in listening to your body - a bad back is the last thing you need as a nurse. But youā€™ll be OK to pick up up where you left off after a few day. Take care - let us know how you get on come Saturday!

Thank you! Exactly, hence me taking a few days off. I will post an update on Saturday x

Gosh such a downer. Youā€™ll get better, hopefully within a few days šŸ™‚šŸ‘. C25k is joyous so thank goodness youā€™re doing it šŸ˜ƒ. Slow and steady is going to get you through it. Slow as you like is wonderful. Take each session one at a time and enjoy it.

Good luck šŸ™‚

Thank you. Itā€™s annoying because Iā€™ve had a really good, positive experience and now I feel itā€™s my turn to have that negative experience. But itā€™ll get better. Thank you!

Take it easy and only run if your back is not hurting. Yoga and Pilates are good to help strengthen your back. Core work will help too. šŸ˜€

Thank you! I do Pilates at home anyway due to training to be a nurse and needing to take care of my back. I just pulled it at work annoyingly šŸ™„ I will get back to running at the weekend!
