So after being ill for a few weeks, I finally managed to get out and do W1R1.... And failed!

Its hot

My trainer rubbed on my ankle

My app won't keep playing while music was playing so had to keep restarting it.

Only managed 2x 1min runs.

But gotta start somewhere and things to remember: wear proper socks, go in the evening. Just need to work out why the app stops playing.....

You can do it! Don't pressurise yourself to complete the whole run first time - take it a few bursts at a time and ease yourself in - maybe try walking for a few of the runs too. There's no deadline and everyone has a different path to the end!

Failed my ass! You’re like we all were, inactive, right? So you scored a victory when you got off the couch... another when you laced your shoes, and another when you went to your start line... and then there was the huge victory that happened in the moment that you crossed that start line... I make that 4-0 to you at that point and I’ve probably missed some!

Sometimes apps are glitchy... maybe new shoes (see pinned posts) are needed, and the right socks... yes it’s hot and humid out there.

Here’s the thing though... you crossed that start line... if you keep doing that you’ll be running 30 minutes at a time pretty soon. There’s a lot of people on here that inspire me and yet didn’t complete the first run on the first attempt... heck for some it takes a few goes. You can do this and if you don’t quit you will. Read the guide (pinned posts again) and keep on top of your hydration... run as slowly as you think you can... then if you need to, slow down a touch (believe me you can) and you’ll get there.

Enjoy your journey... you’re going to amaze yourself a lot on your way to discovering how awesome you really are.

You ran ...you made a start...the app tried to sabotage you...but...you are here.,.with us ...and you are going to do this.

Slow...and steady...read the FAQ for Newbies....pick yourself up...dust yourself down...and start all over again!

No such thing as fail on the forum missC! Each run is practice for the next one so that’s what you were doing! Not sure about the tech side but if you set your music going before the C25K app it should work - don’t forget you only hear the instructions when they’re needed so there may be periods when it’s quiet. But it doesn’t mean there’s no-one there! Good luck!

No fail at all there! You got out there! Despite your worries, you got out there. Despite trainers rubbing and app playing up, you were out there. We all have stuff to learn, and each time we get better 👍🏻

Just keep redoing it, my wife repeated W1 several times and is now on W3 - keep going!

Don't be hard on yourself, you have been ill, and it is hot out there, you got out there, just keep repeating w1 one. The other thing maybe your not fully recovered from your illness, msybe you need to be gentle on your self.

I think that's an incredibly brave first post - putting yourself out there and making yourself accountable! Well done you! Best advice I have - (1) keep in touch with the forum and keep posting, the encouragement and support is amazing; and (2) slow it riiiiiiiight down, it makes the world of difference. Well done for getting started. I had the same issue with the app and if have to run with my phone in my hand so I could keep my eye on it. Not ideal but I done it for the first 6 weeks then i done the last 3 weeks just timing myself on Strava.

Trust me u will have tons of days like this! Raining, battery runs out on ur phone, etc. Days when u just can’t seem to run well. Just keep with it. (I am giving myself the same talk today!) xx

Well done! You’ve achieved a lot already as the others have mentioned! Tortoise n hare is my motto, the important thing is you are doing something - which is a lot more than most people (or we’d have a world of full of runners)

(As for your trainers did you tie them too tight? What feels comfy for general use could be too tight for running. You may feel better in a different make that is maybe looser fitting. Feet can ‘swell’ when exercising and in this heat too....)

Well done for starting. I repeated the whole of week one. The first run is the hardest. The heat makes it harder too. Keeping hydrated makes a huge difference, I drink at least 3 litres of water a day. Good luck for next time.

Well done, that’s the hard bit getting out there week 1 is a total shock to the system! You had a few glitches but will be aware for the next time. Water and go slow look at japanese slow running on you tube that helped me. Good luck with the next run. Let us know how you do ...

I found the order in which I started the apps had an effect on whether they worked together or not. I’m not a techie, but I guess some are more dominant than others, so perhaps just try starting them the other way round may work!

And well done for getting out there - as others have said that is the hardest part and you did it!

The app kept crashing on me as well so I downloaded the podcasts though playlist probably not as good as your own 🙉🙉 xx

No. You definitely did not fail. You started and you joined this amazing forum that will pick you up whenever you doubt yourself. Have you tried the podcast rather than the app? I find it works much better. Good luck for the next (very slow) run.

2 minutes of running is a great improvement on zero minutes! Next time you might do 3, or 4 x 1 minute runs. Or maybe it’ll be two again. It doesn’t matter.

I took ages to complete C25k - I kept having weeks off, repeating weeks... feeling like a failure, starting again, but I did it. It took me 18 months from when I first downloaded the app but I did it, and now I couldn’t care less HOW I did it!

Just keep trying, don’t beat yourself up and you’ll get there eventually.

I was the same on my first run! Wrong trainers no socks 🙈 and blisters before I’d finished first run.. I thought I’m not going to be able to do this, it was horrendous! But I gave myself a couple of days to heal the blisters.. went and got some socks with padding in ties and heal. Have to say it’s not easy but I’ve just started w3r1 yesterday and feeling pretty pleased with myself I’ve got this far!! So please be positive about the things you have achieved in your first run and the fact you even started 👏Well done! Don’t beat yourself up you will get better I have and I’ve never been able to run 🏃‍♀️ just take it at your pace.

Hi Miss C, I'm currently on week 4 but my W1 R1 only saw me complete 4 of the 8 x 1 minute runs so don't give up!

One massive aid for me has been 'Japanese Slow Running' - I saw a post on here and Googled it and it's changed the game for me. It's running at walking speed but means I can now complete 5 minute runs without over-exerting myself which does wonders for my motivation.

Give it a Google, try it and see how you get on but do keep going!! x x x

I had to go into the settings on both my p30pro and my wife's HTC to allow the app to keep running in the background. First time we did it the app must have turned off about 6 times, very frustrating.

No,no, no. Not a fail.

An assessment, and now you know

what we all found out the same way you did.

It's cooler early morning and evening, so try to do it then (I love cold mornings)

You need some of the right kit.

Trainers and good, well fitting socks (I didn't even know running socks existed!)

A sports bra !! Apart from thinking that I was going to die, I thought something was amiss when I got in 🤯😂

You learned loads from this experience. You had lots of things against you this time so there is every reason to be optimistic.

The podcast is more technically robust so worth a thought.

A phrase that has stuck in my head that I read on here a little while ago went something like this - the only failed run is the run you don’t attempt. You went out and ran so you did not fail!

This app helps us to learn to run gradually and also to manage our mental resilience. You have started now which is the biggest single step. The people on here are awesome for giving us all support when we need it. You go girl, we are all with you.

Failure doesn't exist thats how you must think I compleated ct5k on Sunday I ran race for life 5k and I run parkrun 5k and I'm training for a 10k at the moment so I didn't quit I was determined that's what you have to do. Now get yourself to a running shop get a gait analysis this will be beneficial to you as running in the wrong trainers can cause injury down the line you don't want that the gait analysis will tell the shop if you need a neutral or supportive shoe all they do is pop you on a treadmill for 20 sec and see how your legs land they are the experts so get yourself down to runners need or any other but a proper running shop not sports direct were they haven't a clue don't go there been there done it and I still had to buy another pair which were very comfy brooks are a very good make. And don't pressure yourself take your time go slow it's not a race trust me it will come to you like it did with me when I first ran the 60sec were a killer now I can run none stop over 30 min good luck you have got this just think why your doing it and that you can no word as can't it will come and so will your fitness and endurance 😉 Happy running

Took me nine weeks of repeats to conquer week 1: I only managed the first 20 seconds of the first run when I first went out and had to walk the rest. So you’re already ahead of me ! Next time you go out, don’t hassle yourself about completing the run: just aim to do more than you managed this time. Keep repeating that until you fulfil all the requirements of the run, and then move on to the next one. This will feel frustrating but it builds up stamina which pays off later on. And always remember the First Rule of C25k: The only run you fail is the run you don’t go for ! Take it slow and steady and have fun out there x

Keep your chin up! We all struggle at some stage! My hardest one was W2R3 when you had to do the first 2 minute straight, I thought I was going to die lol. I have to stop myself from trying to beat my time each run, so now I focus on my jog itself, and it definitely helps.

Maybe re installed your app and see if that helps. :)

I have needed to repeat some weeks more than once. I struggle with asthma and the weather at times aggravates it so I have to build it up gradually.

Your first run wasn’t a failure it was a starting position and you can build it up from there.

Some runs will be harder than others but you will feel great as you progress through the stages. 😊

Not much to add to what everyone said already. Well done for getting started! I found evening runs a bit easier than morning ones, but sometimes it is nice to get them out of the way . See what suits you best and and enjoy. And be warned , it can get very addictive.

Well done for getting out there, especially after being ill. Don’t be downhearted or put off. Get out again, try again, and go at your pace. It is very hot at the moment, and getting hotter, so I’m going start running earlier next week ( week 2 ) while it’s cooler, and making sure I have water with me. I’m not even trying to mix the app and music! Just listen to the birds and noises in the park for the time being.

It stops playing for me too. But you can fast forward to where you think you were. I think the headphone wire hits the screen and sets off an early finish. It's annoying.

Hi to you. We have all had trouble with the tech, app, phone, shoes, socks etc etc etc. Dont worry cos it will be better next time. You have made the most important step and I know its obvious but I will repeat it . YOU HAVE STARTED.

BTW... Its not failed its " Not got it quite right yet"
