Week 5 question

Question: I am in week 5. Is it normal that my next run is 25 minutes? I did 2X 8 mins today and I really struggled! Will I be able to achieve 25 in 2 days? Anyone that already past that step and can give me advice?

20 minutes next I think (w5r3). Yes you will be ready. Many have faced that run with trepidation and found they could do it. It wont be easy but the programme has prepared you- Have faith!

Hi Paty yes it does seem like a big step up but believe in the plan and believe in yourself. Advice...take it really really steady...you CAN do this 😎

Many of us have had that thought and worry at that stage. Think positive...go steady!

If you dont do it first time! Rest up..tackle it again 😎 nothing wrong with a few attempts!

Great work getting this far! Let us all know how you get on!

I was horrified too, but it's just a case of gritting your teeth and taking it slow! I think I would have been quicker walking lol. But now ( age 65) I've made it to week 9, done one 30min run and only 2 more to go. Even did a couple of minutes extra because I certainly wasn't going to stop when the ground started going downhill at long last. You can do this, just take your time. Also about that time I switched to podcasts so there was something to listen to. Keep going!!!

Other posters definitely right about the anticipation being the worst thing - I didn't think I'd be able to run for 20 minutes, but I managed it and felt really good (and proud of myself) afterwards. The programme really does work. Good luck and well done.

Yes, the last one in week 5 is a 20 minute run. It seems like a lot but everything you’ve done up until now has prepared you for this and you can do it.

As has been said on here, slow and Attis definitely the way to go and you’ll feel amazing once you’ve done it.

Good luck and enjoy your running!

Hey Paty23. It’s twenty and we all thought it was beyond us, bug you are ready for this!

I run using the Japanese slow jogging technique / saw it in w6 and wish I’d found it earlier! But hey ho! It’s a low impact style of running and really helped me as the durations increased. I’ve been running this way since I saw it. You get all the benefits of running without the hard slog. I’ve been reading the book on this and here’s an interesting titbit - you burn as many calories running 5k if you do it in 30 mins or 50 - it’s the distance that counts not the speed!

Here’s the short film that shows you how it’s done, it is worth watching a few times as there are a few parts to it. But I love this way of running and can now run for over an hour this way - would not be saying this with any other way of running.

Hope it helps!
