Wk8 R2. Done

Had zero enthusiasm for running this morning. I forced myself into my running shoes and out the door at 6 and got moving. It was a 28 minute run and it was only horrible for the first 27 minutes really lol. To be honest it was ok but, like last time, I couldn't wait for it to end. By the time I got to the last 7 minutes I felt a bit better and then upped the pace a little at the end. I think it's just a reflection of how I feel generally. I need to get my mojo back I think!

Happy running everyone!

You won't lose it Vintage! You want to finish the programme and run for 30 minutes, you'll get out there and get it done!

I’m just disappointed but also on reflection guess it shows how much it’s part of life now and that’s really good

Yes, especially when you get up early! Sorry about your flat tyre, that's a right pain.

Hey you’ve been motivating me, and probably a fair few others on here. Don’t let the gremlins in! We have been training ourselves mentally as well as physically. You’re strong. Let this one go, you’ll blast the next one!

You know, you're dead right. Today for me was a mental challenge more than physical I think. Don't get me wrong, it was physically demanding but I really believe that this program prepares us to handle the physical challenge of each run. And you wonderful people help us with the mental challenge, so thank you for your encouragement, it really helps.

I'm sure you will still have the motivation Vintage. The fact that not be able to tun today has annoyed you means you really want it! I know I WILL see you you at the finish line!

Aww philevans! What a shame you aren't enjoying it.. do you feel good afterwards? Are you more tired than usual? I've found that if I'm tired I don't enjoy it as much, but I still feel glad I've been out.

People talk about the toxic 10 but a good runner friend of mine tells me she never enjoys the first 20 minutes of any run - she's a distance runner, maybe you are too! That mojo will be back, believe me. I think the first few weeks really help to build you up - can't run 60 seconds, oh my gosh,I can run for 20 flippin' minutes!! Then the next increases don't give you quite the same feeling of amazement. But you are doing amazingly, look back at how far you've come!

I think tiredness is definitely playing a part. I'm working long hours butvfeel more mentally drained and not getting enough sleep either. The achievement after each run still feels great though.

Thank you for your support!

Just keep doing what you are doing.. well done for getting out there !

Try to relax into these longer runs.. take them gently, let the newly forming running legs find their own special happy pace... and go with them...:)

How did it compare to your W8R1 then?

philevans68 profile image

I think physically it was a little easier. I upped the pace at the end today and there was no way i could have done that on W8R1 so it must be ok. I think it's just a mental block.

Well done for doing it and sounds like you had a bit left in the tank towards the end. Sometimes the best thing about a run is the cool down walk and sometimes you just want to run forever but it's all good, it's all building up your stamina, even the runs when you wonder why on earth you are doing it! Bet you recovered from 28 minutes of solid running quicker than you recovered from your Week 1 runs too?!

You're right I did recover much more quickly. I make a note of seeing when my heart rate drops below a certain level and also how I feel generally after each run. Even though the runs are much longer now I'm actually recovering faster. I can feel the improvement in my fitness generally too. I returned the shopping trolley the other day and ran back to the car afterwards. Only a few hundred yards but the look on the other half's face was utter amazement! Lol
