Thinking ahead 1/2 and full marathons

I’m looking ahead

I start week 9 tomorrow.

In November I run my first 10K ( I have a training app for that)

In March I’m running a 1/2 marathon and the end of April I’m running a marathon (please no negative comments about how this may be too much for a previous non runner)

Does anyone have a training plan app for a 1/2 marathon and full marathon that they would recommend?

Thankyou

Nice... by November you’ll be 10k ready for sure. I’d run a marathon plan for the date in April and the HM as just a part of that plan... lots of them have a day that says “run a HM” anyway. We have forums here for all of these distances, so join Bridge to 10k and Marathon Running and Race Support for great advice and plans.

Enjoy your victory lap, consolidate a bit and then have a wonderful journey all the way to 26.2

That’s a really good idea, I hadn’t even thought about just focus on training for the marathon and see the half marathon as part of the training.

Take the advice from UnfitNoMore . Any comments you may perceive as negative, may simply be from experienced runners, seeking only to offer their advice.

I said above I would take that advice

I posted somewhere else the same question and was treated to barrage of you won’t be ready / don’t do it/ that’s what I meant by no negative comments

Advice is greatly welcomed but just not don’t do it, there’s no hope wasn’t the most encouraging thing

I was merely reinforcing UnfitNoMore 's advice....Was your barrage of negative remarks, on our forums here on HU ?

No it was another beginners forum, I’ve only just started using this forum

It’s taking some getting used to because everyone is supportive and encouraging and that wasn’t the case where I was active previously

I think the beauty of these forums is that it’s people who literally started on the couch and have gone on to achieve or work towards the goals of their choice

It’s such an inspiring place to be

I am glad it was not on here...:)

I think the tricky thing is, that here on the C25K forum, posts and replies are very much centred on the runner just aiming and hoping to get to the 30 minute runs..

If you do head across to Bridge to 10K, and the Marathon and HM forum you will find the same level of support and inspiration from the folk there...

The advice you will get is amazing... and the breadth of experience incredible... I have been here for nearly four years, just a runner initially, Graduating 5K in 2015... I learn something new about my running and myself. every single day... and the folk on here have helped take me to levels of running that at 69 years old I would never have imagined possible:) Including my first Half Marathon this March :)

I am glad that you found us.

😂 Wow, I can see why that didn't feel very helpful! End of April is literally the best part of a year away, that's a lot of time to train. Good luck with it all!

Sounds like a plan. For specific guidance on HM and M plans you are best off asking on the ‘Marathon Running & Race Support’ forum/community as they’ll have more experience. I’ve used plans from ASICS and RunnersWorld with reasonable success (admittedly for 10km not HM).

My suggestion is to think carefully about the number of weeks between the 10km and the M. There are not many weeks between the HM and the M, so I suggest training for the Marathon, and the HM is just a milestone along the way. There will not be enough time to transition from HM in March to M in end April if you are ‘only’ running HM in March.

And think carefully about the seasons. After the 10km you are going to be training four times a week in the depths of winter. You’ll be running in the dark, in all weathers and when the pavements are icy. For up to four hours. I’d be trying to get as much training under my belt in better weather before the 10km in November. You might choose a plan to get you to HM by November to give yourself a bit of slack on snowy, icy or windy days.

You’ve got a lot of training to do. A niggle becomes an ache and an ache becomes a pain. An ache can totally derail your plans, so start a daily programme of stretches, strengthening and flexibility exercises immediately if you don’t do these already.

Good luck & post often with updates on your progress.

I’m already thinking of the possible issues winter may cause and I think for that season I may take advantage of a gym and use a treadmill (not my preferred choice but doable) I’m already throwing in some yoga and weights and different things

A friend ran a marathon and she said she suffered for her lack of training that wasn’t running so I’m heeding that advice.

It’s a huge challenge for me to even think about doing something so physical but I believe I’ve got enough time I’m definitely going to start seeing the 1/2 marathon as part of my marathon training as opposed to a separate entity

I’m impressed with your goals and determination. Best wishes for your journey. 10K is as far as I ever want to run. I even aimed for sub 1 hour 10K so as I could get it over with as quickly as possible.😀
