I’ve done it! 61, overweight but I’ve graduated - and I’ve loved it. I think that’s the thing that I didn’t expect. Now, how to keep up the sense of purpose the C25K programme gave me? Suggestions?
Not in my wildest dreams!: I’ve done it! 6... - Couch to 5K
Not in my wildest dreams!
Huge congratulations - what a fantastic achievement! I redid the graduation run multiple times for my consolidation runs, as I really needed the timings & the encouragement! I run using the Japanese slow jogging technique & running this way has meant I’ve discovered the joys of longer duration running. So after 6 weeks of consolidation I added 5 to 10 minutes to one run per week, got into listening to podcasts & audio books & can happily just plod along - now for over an hour. There’s something really great about this gentle pace - a very rewarding & pleasurable way of running. Soon as it cools a bit, I’ll be doing my first 10k this way.
I kept repeating the last run just so I had someone in the background giving me a bit of motivation and knowing when I was at the half way mark. Then this week (week 11) I decided to do a park run. It helped me to have a goal so you don’t end up thinking “what do I do next “ and loose your motivation.
Yessss, well done! Age and weight are no barrier!
I graduated today too - my plan is to do another couple of weeks of week 9, listening to Laura too, and then add 2 mins on for a week, then 5 mins the next week if it's going ok. There's Bridge to 10k to follow aswell. I'm supposed to be doing a half marathon next spring so need to add a fair old bit on, but slowly. For me, I need another goal or I'll probably just faff around and not do anything much!
Woohoo! Well done :-)I found that I could keep going slowly so when I felt able, I pushed on to 10k
But I’m happy mostly doing 5k once a week and just running for half an hour twice a week.
