So, following the advice from my last post regarding running W8 instead of week 7 I did, in deed, do week 7 run 2 today.

The run went fine, despite the cast of all the Gremlins films sitting on my shoulders chanting, "You'll look an idiot if you can't do 25 minutes when you said you found 28 minutes easy enough!"

I just plodded on, smiling like a loon to myself, it was the slowest longer run I did if I'm honest but the fastest ending, adding an extra 1kph for the last minute-90 seconds.

I normally cover the timer on the treadmill, always have done on the longer runs as I rely on Laura for timing my walks/runs but found myself uncovering it today for some reason.

1 more run for week 7, on Friday, and then back to the 28 minutes of week 8!

Happy running everyone.

Yeah those treadmill timers like to tease don't they lol, I think they're in cahoots with the gremlins

I've always covered the timer for the long runs as it gives my head fewer reasons to tell me to stop, I only normally bother with pace and elevation and I've never known why they put hand based pulse monitors on them either, who wants to jog/run/etc holding onto the hand rails to check their pulse?

I check my pulse at the end of the run, then at the end of the cool down to see how fast it drops (ie am I getting fitter lol).

I normally cover with a towel or I end up staring at them thinking omg I've only done 10 minutes etc.

Ah, so I'm not the only one then! I use my Garmin with the chest strap for HRM, it's super accurate and gives a shed load of information, recovery heart rate, recovery advisor, aerobic effort, average foot contact with the ground, etc, plus with it know height, age, weight and heart rate the calories burnt is far more accurate then the treadmill display.

Best thing I ever bought myself (besides the treadmill, my car and my phone that is).

Garmin is a bit out of my budget atm, and I don't believe the exactitude of the running machine monitor I believe the general trend ie is it going down quicker than before

I'm very lucky in that respect, right place, right time and Mike over at Run Forest did me a cracking deal on it when I did C25K previously, it ended up being a combined birthday/graduation gift (with the approval of Mrs LeeU obviously :) )

Between going into his shop the first time and him showing me the Garmin and me going in to buy it the watch was available cheaper elsewhere, so Mike matched Amazon, he even set it up for me to start with.

I can't praise the guy enough, I know this sounds like the start of a bad joke but a fat guy walks into a running shop, he doesn't always get taken seriously or even spoken to! You wouldn't believe the amount of times I went into Currys to look at the Garmins, etc, there and no one came near me, you can't walk past a TV in there without someone trying to sell it to you!

Anyway, I walked into Run Forest, found it by accident, Mike took the time to go through loads of catalogues, etc, looking for an oversize technical top, he even apologised that his suppliers didn't cater for the larger runner shall we say.

He is a runner and is very encouraging, if you live anywhere near Matlock I highly recommend a visit, even if it's just for a coffee and a chat, the cakes looked excellent but I never tried them.

If I'm ever that way I will definitely stop in, I live in France atm, so it would be a bit of a detour :D
