I've just got back in after a 28 minute run. Ordinarily I would laugh at this first line, 28 minutes run my butt! But I did it, I really did. What's more, I wasn't ready to stop when Laura piped up to start walking, where was my sprint finish? My run was slow and steady and I really enjoyed it.
Last night my husband asked me if I was going for a run in the morning, this always made me chuckle because a 90 second run-walk-run thingy never really defined a run to me but I realised by week 5 that it was because of these short runs that I was accomplishing longer and stronger runs.
I feel like I've come so far on a programme that just looks daunting on paper but in reality is completely doable. Sticking to the mantra "slow and steady" really is the secret.
I don't feel so scared of the 30 minute runs next week now. This was my 22nd time I got myself out of bed and into the cold to do something I've never done before. Feeling proud today and can call myself a runner.
I'm off to get drunk on an ice cold water and live dangerously with a slice of lemon.
Have a great running week people x

Congrats Rooster. Bit windy out there this morning though!! Won’t be long till your on that podium. What a journey ehhhh especially when you think back to week 1. This programme really works doesn’t it. I’m with you all the way with “slow & steady” Once again, well done in all you have achieved thus far👍🏻
Thank you Oldlady x yes next Friday I shall be requesting my grad badge, I'm so excited. Thanks to you for keeping me going, your supportive comments have really kept me going x
What a start to your day!! Totally inspirational.... and you are so right, slow and steady is what it is all about! I am about to post , to that effect, yet again!
It is amazing to see how far we get... from those first tentative steps to the lovely longer runs...Laura used to say, in my ear.. "Finish in style".... I used to respond.. "I just want to finish"!
You have got a lovely path to that podium now...take it all in... relax and enjoy.
Have a super day!
PS
Hope the Ice and a slice in your water don't go to your head
I feel great for it. Feel luke I've really done something for myself for a change rather than just fit something in. The mornings are early before the chaos of school runs starts but I feel great for it x
Yay Rooster! W8 is yours for the taking, and then you have your celebratory W9 en route to the podium! Sounds like you are loving it, which is fabulous! 😀😀😀
I am totally loving it. Never thought I would do it but I did and purposely didn't start on January 1st so I wouldn't break that resolution, although come January I'll probably set myself some running goals for the year! X
Yikes 10k! I'm hoping to keep up with 30 min runs until the end of the year. Aim is to cover more distance and then to progress to longer distances. My friends keep teasing me to do a 10k next year so we'll soon. Ooooh 10k seems a lot but we can do it!
That’s great. It’s s lovely feeling when you want to carry on. I felt like that two days ago when I did W8R1. I have been hitting 30 mins since week 7 as I kept pushing myself at the end of each run. My target is to try and get faster as I am not going to hit 5k in 30 mins that’s for sure! Like you I can’t believe I am doing this - especially when I found week 1 so difficult in the hilly region where I live. But now running on flatter areas!! Very well done to you again. I am off to do run 2 later on this evening when it’s a little cooler.
Wonderful new you, well done. It is a great programme and it’s so good to know it really does work. As a 10k graduate now, I started like you last April, so keep going Rooster678
BeckySharp1, its totally doable, distance isn't the aim, continuous running is. Slow down and breathe but don't stop. Urge yourself to get to that next lamp post, bench or road. You can do it. What week are you on?
