W9r1 Amazing! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Well, despite this awful humidity, I went out and ran this evening. After last weekโ€™s horrible runs, I was determined that this one should be different.

All weekend, I have been drinking water like itโ€™s going out of fashion. It was actually easy, because itโ€™s been so hot and humid. I had also decided to go back to basics, and forget about trying to better my pace, but practice niko niko (Japanese slow jogging).

Anyway, running bud came round earlier than we were all meeting, as she said she had a new Fitbit, and needed help on getting going with it. There followed some extreme faffage, as she hadnโ€™t got a Fitbit at all, like me, but a Garmin Forerunner 35. Well! I surprised myself, as I managed to set it up for her, and pair it to her phone with relative ease. Brilliant!

Another bud turned up, and it was my turn to faff, setting up my music and Jo. Off we went. It was hot. And sticky. As were we. ๐Ÿ˜’ We reached our rendezvous point where another bud and her dog were waiting, and off we went, meeting with buddy number five a little further along the road.

Well, I was listening to Wind and Wuthering by Genesis. I find Genesis really good to run to, as the tracks are long, so youโ€™re not predicting how far youโ€™ve run.

Anyway, the usual burning in my trachea that I experience almost every run, was hardly noticeable. I was running SO slowly that the buddy with her dog, who was doing w2r1, kept pace with me! But I WAS running, honest!๐Ÿ˜

Jo piped up that Iโ€™d been running for five minutes. Really? It felt like Iโ€™d just begun! Then she said ten minutes. Then fifteen! What the...!!! My pace was a little faster, but it was still a gentle jog, and my legs were like a metronome, keeping a very steady pace.

Before I knew it, Jo said twenty, then twenty-five.

After a few minutes, I fished my phone out of my belt, and started counting the minutes, so I could do a bit of a sprint at the end. Just as I was feeling out of breath, Jo called time. I had done it!

I had run nonstop for thirty minutes, and felt absolutely fine. Not out of breath. Okay, rather red in the face, and dripping with sweat, but I did it! The witchcraft was back again! I hadnโ€™t experienced this for a while, as I had been trying to increase my pace. My inner snail ๐ŸŒ came up trumps!

I have decided that no matter how fast my companions are, I will stick to what works for me. It may take several months to get to 5k, but I donโ€™t mind. What matters is that I have gone from extremely unfit and fat couch potato, to someone who can run for half an hour, and feel absolutely fine afterwards. This programme works. It works particularly well if you donโ€™t rush or push yourself too hard. Yes, you do have to push yourself at times, but it is mainly a mental tussle. For those of you just starting out, or having a bit of a struggle, never fear, and Trust The Programme.

Just two more runs! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Great post, Muddled. I love hearing about the Genesis soundtrack. You did very well to run in this humidity. Itโ€™s horrible. The air is like treacle. Slightly dreading my run tomorrow if the air doesnโ€™t clear.

Thank, Stephen! By going so slowly, I could cope with the humidity, thankfully. I think tomorrow should be slightly better. Iโ€™m working my way through all of Genesisโ€˜ albums. I love them! ๐Ÿ˜

I will try a slow run and hope for the best. Keep enjoying those albums!

We went out tonight, the air is so sticky, does not make run easy. But it's okay, not on a race.

MuddledGardener profile image
MuddledGardenerGraduate in reply to Elisabeth3

Absolutely! Slow and steady wins the race!

Elisabeth3 profile image
Elisabeth3Graduate in reply to MuddledGardener

Slowest ever. Probably due to the humidity and temperature.

Great stuff Mud. It was really hot today. So close to graduation now! If you can run 30 minutes in that youโ€™ll smash your last two runs. Theyโ€™re Victory laps!

Wish I had some running buddies ๐Ÿ˜ข Right! Thatโ€™s it, Iโ€™m joining a running club after my 10k race. ๐Ÿ˜€

Wow, running club, 10k race. Some ambitious and long term thinking here. Congrats.

Where is the 10k race?

in reply to Elisabeth3

Itโ€™s in London in July... When you graduate head over to the bridge to 10k community/forum. Youโ€™ll see loads of familiar faces, and the same friendly atmosphere and encouragement.

Elisabeth3Graduate in reply to

Thanks. I can see that some people moved over there and I am not able to reply as I am not in that subforum.

Thanks for welcoming me in advance :-)

There is a race not far from where I live and was wondering if that is the one you are attending. But it's not.

in reply to Elisabeth3

Just join the forum now, then youโ€™ll see the comments. Join in, ask questions... Weโ€™re all friends here.

Thanks. That's very kind of you. I will join after completing the C25K, not now yet.

Looking forward to something.

And with so many buddies, fantastic. Half the page is filled with the running buddies; it is so nice.

God may send me one, too, as it must be very encouraging.

Thank you! Iโ€™m lucky to live in a close-knit village, with a London Marathon runner to run the village shop! He started it all. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Wise words. There's no need to think about pace at all during the programme... only one pace needed and that's where you can speak full sentences. The increase in running time is enough of a challenge. There's a whole lifetime of running to work on pace. :)

Anyhow, congratulations on hitting the 30 minute mark! Now all you need to do is stay off the IC and collect your graduation badge!

This is awesome. ..hugest congratulations... so nearly there and to run 30 mins in that heat and mugginess is such an achievement. I used to run on my own and then someone said up a small running group..only fortnightly to do speed and strengthen work with the aim of improving our parkrun times. It's been going over a year now and we've become friends and running buddies. We're all different speeds and distances but the support is phenomenal. .you've always got a running buddy and I've done things I never thought I'd do. ..including a 10 mile trail run which included running through a river..which I was dreading but loved! ! And today I'm starting training for a half marathon๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜..and I always said never further than 10km.

Enjoy every step of your running journey Muddy Gardner and set your own goals. I'm going to show your post to a running buddy of mine when we run together on weds. .she's lost her running mojo. . But I know it's only hiding!!

I am loving your inspiring posts.. thank you.๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒ

Just set your own goals and work towards them.. you will be amazed. I started c25k 2 years ago. My original goal after graduating was just to run regularly and go to parkrun. My next goal was to keep running through the winter and get my 50 parkrun tshirt... I achieved that a few months ago. Then 10k... I did windsor womens 10k on my own as my first one... great race ...very friendly and supportive. Great medal and tshirt. Now I have running buddies and do a variety of things but always being sure I do things because I want to not because I feel pressured to do them. The main thing is to enjoy it. Happy running๐Ÿ˜Š
