A Short Ode on Beginning Week 8

Today I started on week 8

The sunshine on my face

But how I laughed when in my ear

Laura said to up the pace

As Chieftain of Clan Tortoise

I am stuck in second gear

And although slow and steady

I’m delighted to be here

And so for now my only aim

Is to get to graduation

Five runs left to go and then

I’ll work on acceleration 🙂

Sweet...I thought the last line was going to be "I'll have my celebration"...well done on your run.

Oh there’s going to be plenty of that too! I am so far off covering 5k though I am going to have to work at going a little bit faster...

I graduated without covering 5k, I have done it twice since (and aiming for a 3rd tomorrow, but I do it in 45 minutes or so. I am definitely a snail.

That’s encouraging! I did feel a wee bit demoralised when I realised just how slow I am but am focused on how far I have come and getting to the end of week 9. Haven’t told anyone I am doing it either so am excited about the “big reveal” 🙂.

That will be a surprise. My speed used to be slower ! I got a tiny bit faster during consolidation. You shouldn't feel demoralised at all, really, you are out there running instead of sitting on the sofa, you chose to improve your mental and physical health, the speed you run is irrelevant to that. You can work on improving speed once your legs are stronger and you are fitter. Give yourself a pat on the back instead.

Absolutely! I am constantly amazed by how far I have come, especially when I struggled with running for 60 seconds at the start! And setting the alarm for silly o’clock three days a week as well- am loving it! Happy running 🙂- whatever the speed!
