Your favourite running song ?

I need to redo my playlist for bridge to 10k.

I would really like a lot of the list to be made of VRBs songs.

Give me a song or 2 please. Don't worry about bpm , I don't run on the beat, just for company and to keep the gremlins at bay

Now youโ€™re talking! I am a music nut and carry thousands of tracks around with me on my phone. Sometimes I will prepare a quick playlist, based on whatever mood I am in. Or just stick iTunes on shuffle and hope for the best.

Off the top of my head, these all tend to work for running:

-Talking Heads โ€“ โ€˜Road to Nowhereโ€™ (try it!)

-Blondie โ€“ โ€˜Heart of Glassโ€™ (pop-disco perfection)

-Almost any 1980s pop hit, but why not something super-rousing like โ€˜Gloriaโ€™ by Laura Branigan?

-Led Zeppelin - โ€˜Rock โ€˜nโ€™ Rollโ€™ (wakes you up)

-Rolling Stones โ€“ โ€˜Sympathy for the Devilโ€™ (wonderful rhythm)

-The Beatles โ€“ Helter Skelter (insane: try running slowly to that!)

-Paul Simon โ€“ โ€˜Gracelandโ€™ and โ€˜The Obvious Childโ€™ (tuneful and bouncy: I just like โ€˜em)

-The Bangles โ€“ โ€˜If She Knew What She Wantsโ€™ (blast of pure summertime)

-Donna Summer โ€“ โ€˜I Feel Loveโ€™ (genius disco)

-REM โ€“ โ€˜Whatโ€™s the Frequency, Kenneth?โ€™ (fantastic guitar riff that circles round and round)

Literally thousands of others...

Itโ€™s not really about the beats for me. I like a glorious wash of melody or a hypnotic quality you can lock into. Today I was running to Bob Dylan and it just didnโ€™t hit the spot. But the right music for the right run really transforms the experience into something magical.

Damn I need to look at your lists. I love music too. My youngest also, he's always dancing to music in his head or drumming on the table to something only he can hear. There is more often music on in the house than tv. We even have a waterproof bluetooth speaker in the bathroom.

What kind of stuff do you like? I have varied tastes, to say the least, and absolutely hate musical snobbery โ€“ so nothing itโ€™s too obscure or too cheesy for my playlists!

backintime profile image
backintimeGraduateโ€ข in reply toStephen_UK

Mine is fairly varied too. It goes from Sound of Silence (Disturbed version) through Amy Winehouse, Justin Timberlake, MmmBop ๐Ÿ˜‚, Jackson 5, Meghan Trainor, one Elvis song, 50 cent, scissor sister....couple of blues songs, shaggy, madness,...

Stephen_UK profile image
Stephen_UKGraduateโ€ข in reply tobackintime

Love a bit of Amy. Jackson 5 too. MmmBop is timeless!

Zippy17726 profile image
Zippy17726โ€ข in reply tobackintime

Sound of silence disturbed version is one of my fave running songs!

backintime profile image

disturbed's one hits the spot for running

Wow, never heard this before. I like the original a lot...but can see this on my running list. Never heard of Disturbed before...

backintime profile image
backintimeGraduateโ€ข in reply toBluebirdrunner

I find it more powerful than the original, more uplifting for running

Zippy17726 profile image
Zippy17726โ€ข in reply tobackintime

Me too! If you like this, you may like bad wolves version of zombie , Iโ€™d never heard of them before and the rest of their stuff is very heavy but he sings this song really well! Another powerful one !
