Little over a year ago I could barely run 5k at all. Last night I got closer to one of my goals - to run 5k in under 25 minutes.
Since graduating from C25k I moved to the 10k & Marathon forums, but also joined my local running club - Cambridge & Coleridge AC. Like all clubs, they are very inclusive with a wide range of abilities and ages within their members. They are great value too in terms of the coaching and training they make available, such as speed challenge training.
Our local clubs also organise friendly races against each other, and last night was the 3rd race in the Kevin Henry League held at Newmarket race course.
Around 400 runners took part, ok quite a few elite athletes were running, but also a whole range of other runners of all abilities too. I came 242nd but was still congratulated by fellow club mates (many of whom are quite a bit quicker) for completing the run and giving it my best.
In the end I managed a 5k PB just over 25 mins, and had a really enjoyable eveningπ
