Hi, I just got back from my w5 r3 run... I had a lot of time to think in 20 minutes:
- what the hell am I doing? I could stay in w5r2 forever, it wasn't that hard
- this is never going to end... 5 minutes only? The 8 minutes last run were shorter!
- they say trust the method, and go slow, don't forget, the Japanese wise man!
- ok, 10 minutes, I'm not out of breath, what's happening?
- I could actually go faster, remember the wise man, you've run 15 minutes, don't screw it now!!
- 2 minutes left??? I'm going to make it!!!
- 20 minutes?? Already?? I don't want to walk, I want to keep running! Actually what I want is to go tell everyone in the forum!!
Thanks for all the support so far, I trust the method, but without all the support and shared experiences I've read in this forum I wouldn't have made it today (I wouldn't have even started). Thanks so much, you are great!

I've said all along, W5R3 is a mental challenge not a physical one, it's the part of the program where you go from "I can't do that!" to "I KNOW I can do that!", everything else kind of fell into place after that for me.
It's like the Royal Navy advert that was on a few months ago, if you can fix a car then you can fix....
The C25K version is, if you can run for 20 minutes then you can run for 25 minutes, if you can run for 25 minutes then you can run for 28 minutes, if you can run for 28 minutes then you can run for 30 minutes!
I can really relate to your post, well done. I have just done W5R2 and must admit I was surprised that I managed 8 minutes, but feel daunted about the 20 minute run next. I will certainly give it a good go!
And well done you! I remember the feeling during and after the run distincly and it was very similar to you, i have continuous conversations with myself
It is an amazing milestone and now you are on the home straight, just keep doing the same and go slow. For me, it became more mind games because really if you run 20’ you can run 30’. So pleased for you
Hi, well done . It’s great isn’t it? I am at the same stage and couldn’t believe how much easier it was than I thought. Had a little cry when I had done it . Then was grinning like a Cheshire Cat all day. Was definitely a mental hurdle. I was dreading it . Then gave myself a good talking to and kept telling myself I was ready and just to listen to my music and not think about the time.
I'm still on the treadmill, but 20 minutes looking at the screen had me really thinking about moving outside I'll get there, I also now it will be much harder outside as I really struggle to keep my pace and I'm all the time worried about where I'm stepping so only look down but I'm definitely considering going outside, which was an impossible thought 5 weeks ago!
You look down, you bend your neck, which kinks your windpipe. Restricts your breath. Laura recommends looking ten paces ahead.
I do look down at kerbs, and R & L when crossing, but do try to help my breathing by looking ahead at the green leaves, flowers in the hedge, the cool breeze and was that a squirrel? Just enjoy your running. Slowly.
