W6r2. How am I doing?

Just completed W6R2. Including my warm up and cool down walk I'm covering about 3.3km. Is this distance OK? I know the programme is based on times but I'm not sure if I should be trying to increase my speed in the hope of achieving 5k. Eventually should I be planning to do 5k in the 30 mins?

Good morning Scram , well done for completing the second run of week 6! 👏

In order to graduate the C25K programme, you only need to be able to run for a period of 30 minutes without stopping. How far you travel during those 30 minutes doesn't mean anything at all. You'll notice that the app doesn't record distance, only time.

If, after graduating, you wished to run 5k in 30 minutes, then yes there are ways to improve your speed. For the time being, however, try not to think about how far you are running.

You're doing great, just keep doing what you're doing 🙂👍

Sounds like you're doing just great and the answer to your question is a resounding no. In fact if you tried you will almost certainly get injured! Keep it slow and steady. Pace increases naturally after you have graduated and have done plenty more 30 minute time. Good luck and enjoy your running

You are doing very well! I was about the same at W6R2 and then W6R3 my distance shot up because it was a continuous run! Xx don’t let it worry you, you have 3 more weeks to keep building and actually only 10% of graduates achieve the 5K target, many get closer to it during consolidation weeks and beyond! For now, enjoy the journey xx

If you look at this poll healthunlocked.com/couchto5.... you will see that fewer than fifteen percent of graduates manage a sub 30 minute 5k by graduation........ many never do and it doesn't matter at all.

You are doing great, no need to try speeding up..........that will come in time.

I think you’re doing very well indeed! I run slowly (Japanese slow jogging technique) and it can take me 50+ mins to run 5k! Focus on duration for now - you can work on pace later if you want. But nail the 30 minutes first & after consolidation you can work in either pace or more duration.

I'm doing the Japanese Slow Running too. I was just concerned that I am better at the slow than the running!

🤣🤣🐌 it’s still running! I’ve been running this way for over 5 months now - and I’m definitely feeling the benefits of running and very importantly enjoying it!

You don’t have to go fast!

You just have to go!

Read the marvellous DiscoRunner above.

Look at JSR on YouTube.

Run slowly, run safely, run well and enjoy your running.

Look forward to reading about YOUR GRADUATION very Soon. Slow is not just good!

Thanks. I was asking the question as I feel I've hit a wall with my distance for each session. My brisk walk is at quite a good pace an my running is pretty slow so they even each other out!

You've just had some of my most inspirational people answer,I have nothing to add but wish you the best for your future runs, revel in the fact that you're running for that length of time. Think about the first week when you were running for a minute at a time and how far you have come since then.
