Run 1 of week 5 tackled this morning. The old legs are beginning to ache and burn less during the running parts and i am finding my recovery much faster now. Things are happening!
I've seen a pair of those funky leggings that "proper" runners seem to favour these days and plan to treat myself as a reward for making it through this week, which I WILL!!!
Look out the 80's.......here i come!😂

I’ve just finished week 4 and was really looking forward to it but my legs had other ideas 😳 I finished it though and having a couple of days rest before week 5 feeling a bit deflated but hopefully legs will get stronger am 52 and haven’t ran for 15 years but enjoying the challenge 👍 I can’t imagine running for a full 20 mins though
I ran out of fuel on my last week 4 run and like you, the legs were like lead pipes. I took two days off before starting week 5 and im glad I did as they felt much less heavy and achy at the end of todays run.
I also didnt feel that i needed the full three minutes to recover between each run which was very surprising as up until now i have needed every second!
I plan to take another 2 days off in between run 2 and three as I want to make it as comfortable as possible for myself when attempting the 20 minute run. Also planning on drinking a small resevoir to make sure i'm fully hydrated as i have noticed the runs which i have found more challenging are the ones where i haven't drunk enough water the day before.
I'm a bit concerned because I am actually looking forward to the challenge of run 3 (very unlike me!) because that will be the longest i have ever run in my 42 years......and i am starting to believe that I can do it 😁
Well done Lindsey-joy, you catching me up😂🐢🏃♀️ Enjoy your rest days and get your leggings bought, just got myself a pair coincidentally, I will never get run over wearing them😂
Oh that made me giggle! I will probably never wear them either but I will keep them by my bedside and stroke them lovingly while hoping that one day I will have the confidence to be seen in public in them 😀
I treated myself to some fancy leggings and a fancy vest from Sweaty Betty as a treat to myself for graduating! Tried them on today and my son asked me, "What's that stuff all over your leggings, mum, there's something on them?!" Thanks son, I think you'll find that those are very stylish FLOWERS!
Aw, thanks, notquiteretired! Yes, I felt on top of the world, nowhere near running the 5k in 30 minutes yet, so that's the next challenge. But just going to enjoy the fact that I can now run for 30 minutes for a while before I think about going any further or faster!
You definitely can! Just take it really slow and steady to start with and before you know it, you'll be halfway through and then you'll have settled into a nice pace and rhythm. I think it really helps to have a nice route planned so you can distract yourself with the sights and sounds, rather than thinking too much about running! Let us know how it goes.
So jealous you’re in the Gower. I used to live in Killay. South Manchester isn’t so picturesque but I’m loving finding new places I haven’t discovered before in my local area.
I have managed run 1 of week six and i am due to do the second today but not sure if that will be possible as I have had to go back to my parents unexpectedly for a couple of days and i have no gear. I will see how i feel when i get home!
As for the Gower, yes it is gorgeous! We live about an hour away so we are very lucky. My eldest was doing his D of E practice last Sunday so we took the dogs and made a day of it. Great weather we had too!
