Newbie w1 completed and loving the tips and guidance on this forum

Hi everyone

I am a complete beginner and have just finished week 1. I have always been someone who says “I can’t run” so I decided at 38 years old now is the time for this to change. I have just finished week 1and feel really chuffed. My knees are a bit niggly so I have been reading the advice on knee strengthening exercises which I am going to try for on my rest days and also stretches which I haven’t been doing yet. Such fantastic guidance on this forum.

I found the 3rd run much easier than w1r1 but looking ahead to the future weeks seems so daunting! I just can’t imagine being able to get to 30mins running so I’m just going to take it a run at a time and repeat weeks if I need to. I have been amazed at how much I have enjoyed the first week!

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Enjoy your journey.

Hi, well done on completing wk1, as I was told weeks ago just trust the plan and keep on following it and you can't go wrong, there is lots of great advice on here, I had a wobble on wk3 and it got me through it I'm now about to start w7 and I'm absolutely loving it, I never thought I would. If u feel that u need to repeat a run then do it if not just go for it, with the right positive attitude you will surprise yourself 😁 if I can do it, anyone can. Lots of luck 🍀🍀

Well done on starting this amazing programme. Yes take it a run at a time, and you will find yourself running for 30 minutes by the end of 9 weeks or so. Put your faith in the programme and in yourself 👍😊🏃🏾‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Well done you! I’m just about to do my first run ever this morning... hope I feel as good about my first week as you do. I agree too, this forum is so helpful and friendly.

Well done you - great start ⭐️ ! You may find the NHS Strength and Flex podcasts a useful activity for rest days. Happy running 😀

I never thought I could run either, in my early forties here. And running for every five minutes solid seemed really daunting when I first looked at the programme! But two days ago I ran for 20 minutes straight. The programme really works, you'll be so glad you gave it a whirl! :)

Welcome to the forum. It’s an amazing journey, you’ll be in for a lot of surprises! (surprising yourself mostly!). I turn 40 next month and just like you I too decided it’s time for a change.

You have the right attitude, take each run one at a time, it’s natural to want to look ahead but don’t let it throw you off at this stage. Best advice is to read all the faq articles they are so valuable, I’ve printed them all off and leave them on the coffee table to serve as reminders as I start a new week in the plan.

I wish you the very best! Xx
