By the light of the silvery moon I left the house this morning! Laura is in my ear ,brisk walk brisk walk, ok ready to run, yes I am, down the hill that I will have to come back up and which I will be thinking about whilst I am out. Down I go , turn left at the bottom, checking myself out in the mirror at the junction. Trotting along like a snail, past cats and dogs who glance up from their slumbers, 5 minutes in says Laura. On I go past the rottie in the garden, he barks once as if to say hello there. 10 minutes in and I’m past the village play park, no children on the swings, they hang all forlorn and unused so early in the day. On I go past the little village shop and the water plant, nobody around just yet. On I go it’s a long stretch, then turn again, another mirror have a look, yes you could pass as a runner! Now here’s Laura telling me I’m halfway round and there’s the bell, not feeling too bad at all. I press on, pass the lady I see early in the morning washing her steps down, pass the bakery, oh the smell the smell, now here come the older men armed with sticks out for their early morning walk. They wave their sticks in greeting, I call out good morning, and press on further. The scents of coconut, lemon and orange surround me, here’s Laura again, 10 minutes to go. I pass by the school, deserted right now , soon the school buses will arrive but I’ll be long gone. I cross over the road looking back to make sure nothing is coming. Oh blow it’s the hill! Don’t look at the top, just concentrate on what you are doing, listen to the music and try to keep the beat, pass by the house, coffee coffee, up to the top, touch the wall and back down, staying alive bee gees playing, 1 minute to go! Nearly done, then Laura says that’s it! 9 weeks in and I’m done, what a great feeling! I wish faithful spaniel was here to celebrate with me, but I’ll do a victory run with him when I get home.
I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has liked or replied to my posts, it’s been an interesting journey and I’ have to say that I don’t think I would have completed it without the encouragement and advice from folk who have posted. This is a great forum, friendly and encouraging, and in words that have been said many times before, if I can do it anyone can!
