A Run A Day

So I started back yesterday after 9 wks off for a broken toe and went from W5R3..... Wow it killed me.

So I ran again today and did W5R2 which was alot better.... Going to try W5R1 tomorrow as Ive got 2wks to see whether theres any point me signing back up to do the Great Birmingham 10k.

I think I should follow previous advice on here which was to interval the run.... Any opinions?

Thanks C25K'ers x

When you run you create microtears in your muscles which repair and strengthen on your rest days. Without rest from impact, repair and strengthening is hugely reduced and injury risk hugely increased. Which is why rest days are absolutely crucial for new runners.

Running on consecutive days is not recommended until you have an absolute minimum of six months of regular running on your legs.

Trying to push all your missed training into a few weeks, especially after coming back from injury, sounds like a recipe for disaster to me and could so easily end up with you not being able to start your 10k.

Take your rest days and do other non impact exercise on those days. That will ultimately make you a better runner than running every day at this stage of your running career.

Take care.

Iannoda has presented the facts as it should be. Do not risk it. There is a reason these programs are designed in such a way. As the saying goes "better be safe than sorry".

They are important... very much so.

Rest days are really, really essential as IannodaTruffe says... and even a minor tear can have you on the IC for weeks. The C25K porgarmme has the rest days as part of its structure to hopefully, prevent injury.

The interval training advice I gave included rest days between runs, it is so important. I was talking about just changing up your runs with adding walk breaks but keeping to three runs a week. You will still be fine and ready in time. but you would be pushing it to be ready without the rest break as others have said you need the recovery time to build your muscles. I know it might not make sense right now but honestly you will be even stronger and ready to cope with your event with the rest days. happy Running. Rfc x

Thanks, I think I got a little bit confused. Thinking to run everyday but do intervals so its not a complete run. Yes will definitely have a rest day today. Thanks for the advice x
