Run A Full 5k

Tonight was club run night and for our beginners it was there graduation run! I wasn’t really feeling it tonight as I didn’t get a good nights sleep but I thought I would go any way. It was my friend Kathy’s Birthday so I thought I would run with her super steady 5k! We were the group to leave the start point!

our group caught up with the beginners at around 1k as we were passing i realised that the group leader with the beginners was trying very hard to encourage one of the beginners who was beginning to get up set as she felt she couldn’t do it! In that second I realised that had been me so many times over the years, I thought it was time to pay back so of the love so I switch groups and ran the whole route with Rachel to give her some more encouragement! Nicky the group leader explained I had done the beginner’s training so often it was a bit of an in joke but I always come back and give it another go! I have had several spells with injuries which has meant I had to start over several times!

Rachel is running to loss weight and to help over come her mental health problems!

I slowed my pace right down and looped back behind them so I didn’t get to far a head of them!

when we hit 4.5k I opened up the pace so I could let the others know they were not far behind me!

On graduation runs we clap the beginners back under their graduation banner and line up to welcome them back and they are given a certificate to say they have completed it!

At this point I realised I had just run the whole 5k this is the 1st time since I broke my shoulder I had done it!

It was so lovely to see Rachel get her certificate and knowing she had actually run over 30 minutes without stopping!

Tonight wasn’t about me it was about encouraging Rachel to reach her goal!

Thank you! I have been in that place feeling I will never be able to run a whole 30mins or even a 5k!

So it is nice to give back to someone else the support that others have given me!

What a good thing to do, there's much satisfaction in encouraging others. And your first full 5k since injury

If we can’t give back some of our experience to someone who is finding it a struggle what kind of person s are we! I just want her to feel that feeling of achievement accomplishing something that people around her are giving her little support! Running a whole 5k for me was just secondary to Rachel’s massive achievement !

I was so pleased for Rachel it was a massive achievement for her!

I have been in her shoes feeling frustrated and angry with myself why am I finding this so difficult!

I have run on & off for 7 years it was only last year when I finally clicked with the breathing running a constant 5ks ! I am now back to that point! So I thought sod my time just help Rachel!

Thank you old floss

what a wonderfully uplifting post! I have to say that I do love (most) runners. I am on my way back from long Covid and have decided to repeat C25k, only on week 3 but I already get a few nods from the many runners I meet in the woods, it always gives me a boost! You did a really good thing today x

Thank you! I used C25K as my rehab plan this year and will do most likely later in the year! I broke my shoulder badly in January! I couldn’t think about running for 21/2 -3 months it was to painful! Having been given permission to run gentle I started this!

17 weeks down the line my shoulder is not heading properly so next step is surgery to repair it! Hence why I might have to do this again again later this year! For now I will keep running and swimming until the next step happens! Thank you once again
