Today’s run started great besides some aching in my knees which I thought would pass. I planned out my route and set off. After the second lot of running my knees were in agony, more so when I was walking after the 90 second run than anything. I thought I was going to have to give up as I was practically limping during the walking parts. Some how managed to complete the run at a VERY slow pace. Newbie to running so guessing it’s runners knees? Probably need new running shoes? Maybe I can save up as I’m a student and can’t afford new ones yet. Fingers crossed it gets better I just started to enjoy my runs.

W2/R2 20 year old Knee pain
Be careful not to over do it if you have an injury. I injured my left knee and was told by a physio to have around a month off. He also suggested that the knee pain was due to very tight calf/ glutes. He told me to stretch twice a day- only takes about 2 mins each time. It’s made such a difference to my knee pain. So maybe stretch out some more?
Hi I had the same problem when I started. Got to week 4 and had terrible trouble with my hip. Never had it before. Went to see a spirts massauer who informed me it was because of the running. So told me our muscles don't react to running as well as our mind. The mind says yes you can the muscle says no not yet. So basically she told me to take it at my pace and repeat weeks if you need to until your muscles and joints are used to it. Hope this makes sense. I am still doing couch to 5k but in my time and not moving on weeks until I feel strong enough. Good luck.
What to remember is not to try and run through any bad pain, always rest up, as already said stretching helps and also knee strengthening excercises which can be found on here, but am thinking it's early days and it will subside, yes, make sure shoes are ok, if suspect go to a reputable running shop for fitting and gait analysis.

As the guide to the plan states, healthunlocked.com/couchto5... you can minimise impact and effects. Stretch after every run and do knee strengthening exercises nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/k...
Def need proper running shoes. Also, look for Japanese slow running on You Tube which has helped my knees. Also, run on grass. When I run on pavement, my knees are in agony. Good luck 👍🏼
