Yesterday the run shone on the south coast taking a little chill off the air. After a busy morning I had just enough time to squeeze in a run before I did the horses in the afternoon.
I set off along dog poop alley (with the ubiquitous bags adorning the trees and shrubs π‘) to the bottom of the South Downs. As I head up the hill it starts to hail. Yes hail! For pitys sake it was clear blue sky's not moments before π€¦ββοΈ. Anyway this hill is brutal. I hate it with a passion but it gets me to some beautiful running so I have to suck it up. My lungs however felt this amount of exertion was completely unacceptable, so got their mate Sinus to start producing mucus in impressive quantities in the hope i would quit. "NO", i said, "i WILL make it to the top". "More mucus!" came the cry from my lungs. Enter stage left another hailstorm! π§
At this point I gave up; sheltered under a tree and blew my nose for England π€§π€§π€§ Also an opportune moment to take a photo of the Solent (Isle of Wight on the horizon) π·
Upon reaching the mountain summit, after a few moments of sucking air, I wake up Laura and we start the 5 min warm up walk. All progresses well and it's not long into the first 10 min run that I am heading down hill like a happy mountain goat. Baby steps to reduce the impact on my knees. Body upright to minimise the chance of face planting π Too soon Laura tells me to do my 3 min walk. Luckily I had to fiddle with the playlist on my phone so was stationary when 3 mountain bikers whizz past at a million miles per hour. Next time guys USE YOUR BELL! or at least shout a warning when approaching people from behind.
The next tens mins where harder than the first. I think i would have preferred there not to be intervals as i had hit a good rhythm. Thankfully Laura soon tells me to slow to a walk. Yay I then experienced jelly leg π€ͺ Its never happened to me before but looking back over the day I don't think I was fuelled correctly and I had already had a dressage lesson in the morning. However I soon got back on an even keel and returned to the car with a satisfied smile.
For once I did some proper stretches and then went to do evening stables. I think this helped a lot as I'm not suffering today π yippee
Weirdly i am looking forward to R3.
Hope you've all had a great weekend and happy running xxx

Good post from you jogunlikely, the photo is a bit hazy due to that east wind all of the UK is having just now, the forecast is for it to ease up later in the week and get warmer.
Well done on completing run 2 of week 6, that is the last run with interval walks and runs, you will be happy about that as you said you did not like slowing down to walking pace today, from run 3 it's all non stop running, the first being run 3 of week 6, the first of 4/25 minute runs.
Ooh I love the jelly legs! I had it for the first time on the first 20 min straight run. And then a couple of times after that when I pushed myself. Always made me feel like I had an extra good workout!
I now run for 40 mins straight but don't get it anymore. But I can't push my speed as I tend to get ankle or calf pain so have to stick to "slow and steady!"
But it's all good! Brings back memories reading your post lol
There is method in my madness! I am trying to graduate before our drunken girlie weekend at Badminton Horse Trials. At the mo I am due to graduate the morning we leave π± there is no slack in the schedule...
Iβve had jelly legs quite a few times, In fact I had heavier legs yesterday as I ran 6 k for the first time as Iβm now on B210k and jujus magic plan to get me to 10K!
Iβm sure itβs just getting general tone and stamina in the muscles plus lack of rest sometimes. Like You, I have a horse, we do dressage and as heβs flipping sharp, I use more leg than I prob ought to!! So on days off Iβm still doing something with my legs. I never run after lessons π±
No hills in Southsea but we too have the Solent IoW views - arenβt they lovely! No hail yesterday either! Off to do W6r1 in a minute - thereβs a cold wind out there this am!
Hi great post, very entertaining. You haven't got the hang of runners mucus ejection system yet then? ....finger on one nostril blow, change nostril, Tips...make sure your evacuating nostril is pointing away from your shoulder and no one is at your side...πππππ
Hi there well I am over on the Isle of Wight "in the distance" on your piccie. So here we are with a stretch of water between us both doing C25K. I completed today to be honest it was like facing an exam I felt different than my normal runs sort of apprehensive as I had done right through not missing or shortening any did not want that to change today. You have not got far to go to you join me now just a couple more weeks. Enjoy as you appear to be doing and good luck when you get therexx
certainly did that hill you climb helps...in the words of Rag n Bone Man Giant "stand upon my shoulders see what you can see...I am the Giant". One of my running songs I hasten to add. Listened to it so many times know all the words...SAD
