Running With Others

My journey on the couch to 5k is taking a lot longer than I expected, so a year in and I am still on week 5. Life, work, illness , the usual suspects played their part in delaying my runs. My enthusiasm for the plan has not changed, hearing Micheal Johnson encourage me helps, but I was wandering if running with other people makes a difference? I had a look at running groups but they are for runners way better than me, and seem a tad intimidating. Is there anyone in the Newcastle /Gateshead area that would consider trying a (slow) group run?

I find it really depends on my state of mind. I started C25K on my own, at week 4 my partner decided to join me. Sometimes my 17 year old daughter joins me. Sometimes I take my dog, sometimes I don’t! Some days, having someone else there helps, it’s a distraction and I also feel like I have to finish.... I can’t give up if there is someone else there with me! Other days my head tells me that I am slowing them down, they would be able to run faster without me there, that I am rubbish at running and don’t know why they want to run with me anyway.

I do like to have the variety though. I enjoy a sociable run with others sometimes but I am also not afraid to go out and do it on my own.

Thanks, I had tried running with anyone else, suspect having another person along would spur me on, easier to give up when I by myself.
