Rain rain go away

Up at 6:15. Checked the weather on my phone. Oh not good! 90% chance of rain. 😬

Bugger it I thought. I needed to clear my head and had already had an extra rest day. Got my new gear on 😎, the gloves were a great buy! Also got the old woolly hat out - well needed.

The run went pretty well, managed 8k. I’m a little annoyed as I’m starting to get a little niggle on my left knee again. I know my left leg always gets a little tighter. Maybe I should stretch before as well as a warm up walk? 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’m still learning.

I was soaked to the core. Brrrr!!

On my way back 2 deers we’re running parallel in the field next to me which made me smile.

So I’ve learned to slow down a bit. Which I did and it helped my breathing. I’ve also learned that we don’t actually melt in the rain, you will be fine so long as you dress appropriately.

Thanks all

Well done.

Do you stretch after every run?

in reply to IannodaTruffe

Yes. Stretch after my runs. Just not before. I use the NHS website as they seem to be pretty good stretches

Stretching before a run needs to be dynamic, not the static stretching done after a run, as linked to in the guide to the plan.

Absolutely. Get a lightweight run jacket, cheap as chips. A cap too helps keep the worst of the rain off. We don't disintegrate in the rain. You'll be fine. It helps keep us cool actually We don't want to be cold and wet though, bear in mind, so don't leave yourself with miles to get home post run

I was walking in a field and there was deer fencing alongside it but a loose dog was chasing a huge, many-antlered red deer and it leapt the fence and ended up in front of me sweating and panting. Gosh it did frighten me a bit but it was absolutely gorgeous, and seeing it up close like that was wonderful. Always something new to see when we're out and about

Yes I agree. I had a shower proof jacket on. It was soaked by the time I got home, it was a little more than a shower 😂. My new leggings did the job of keeping my legs warm too, sometimes shorts don’t quite cut it. It’s nice to see wildlife out. We take things for granted and take no notice of our surroundings usually so it’s nice to go for a run and notice these lovely things.

Well done for getting out! I need a shower after a run so it doesn’t bother me too much if I get wet. Do the knee exercise for runners from nhs, they will probably help.

I always do dynamic stretches and walk for longer.

in reply to Couchpotato2

Yeah me too! It’s quite refreshing 😂 when I was running previously I was doing they dynamic stretches. Probably need to get on with them again. I will have a look at the nhs knee exercises. Thank you.

The stretches only take 2 minutes so it’s worth it!

Today I had shower and dryer on my run (30mph winds)

in reply to Couchpotato2

Wow. That’s a lot of wind 😂. It’s ok if you’re running down wind. It’s horrible if it’s in to it. Virtually impossible

Well done Dave ! Think quite a few of us were running early this morning...I do a few stretches before run so not sure if that would help your knee niggles, the gloves are a godsend in the rain. Good luck for next weeks run 🏃‍♂️
