Was supposed to be doing 7k, ended up doing 12.5k - of which a lot was walking.
There was a group of us, 6 humans and 2 dogs - and we didn’t know each other before we got lost - but bonded while navigating our way back to it.
Luckily the weather was good and the scenery was pretty.
I will add that I did have the route on my phone - refers you to picture - but when we first realised we were off route our phones couldn’t agree where we were 🤦♀️ And one of the others was keeping the race organisers up to date on her phone - but reception was patchy, so even though someone came out to find us, he failed, and we reached his car before he did 😊

Sounds that you had more of an adventure than a run but you all enjoyed it, running and getting lost is so exciting, you don't know what I is around the next corner.
This reminds me of an extended parkrun I once did on Hampstead Heath. I was following the runner in front who was following the runner in front who was following the runner in front etc. We rapidly came to the conclusion that the lead runner of our little group of 15 or so possibly wasn't doing parkrun when we all arrived at the station platform...
Three of our group were following myself and the lady I was running with!
The last lady was actually ahead of us and had been with a much bigger group of people who had also missed the marker, but hadn’t liked the route they decided to take so had turned back.
I think we did about 7.5K. I know it was my slowest parkrun time ever at 35 min (and that includes the time I had to play at first aider and escort a runner back to the start...). It's an experience I won't forget.
Oops! Quite an adventure you had that ended well thankfully. I remember going for a hike in the mountains years ago after work with a group where we accidentally ended up off trail. So our little after supper jaunt became a long haul but we managed to get off the mountain just as dark approached. It was an exhausting but fun adventure I'll never forget. Unfortunately we never got back to that trail again before moving away from the lovely mountains 😪
