With a little help from my friends ....

After 13 days of graduation on the couch ( including a few in the bars of the Costa Blanca and a few under my quilt with man-flu)...........

I went out and did it!

My first 30 min run as a graduate - and what did I learn?

1. 13 day break made it unnescessarily hard (in my head and my legs)

2. I can still do it! 🤪

3. When it’s sunny and 26 degs I should put sun screen on my bald head.

4. The dogs are fitter than me.

5. Stay on the forum - I don’t think I would have done it without you, CP2 - thank you!!

Yeah well done! I think the hardest is the mental aspect. After yesterday’s session I now feel back to my normal self in so far that I’m just going to run every other day and get on with it. Having too long a break it’s not good for me. Sounds like your goal is to run faster than your dogs… Might be a little hard…

Ha! I don’t think I’ll si m to beat the dogs - or even to speed up much at all - I think i’ll modestly set my target at “just running at least 3 times a week”.

Getting carried away and aiming too high creates a danger of inevitable failure - I’m not an athlete - never was, never will be ..... but I’m proud of doing C25k and I want to hang on to the good bits. So - manageable steps are - to me- enter than steps that will ha e me falling down the stairs !!

So - you did your park run? I do wish I had that option here.... it sounds very encouraging to have others to run with and learn from ... hope it went well and I hope you find a programme / regime / habit that works for you .

Best advice I’ve had was from you! Just to do it for the fun of it ...I’m going to abandon Strava blah blah - if I can just run 30 mins (or so) every other day - that will be success enough for me!

if you do 3 times a week you are doing well. I think running on hills makes you naturally run faster on flat after... but it's not really necessary, I mean there is no point doing it if you don't get some enjoyment out of it. I wondered about re-doing C25k but run faster, run slower instead of run and walk but my friend has built a programme for me and I think I'll be in trouble if I dont try it.

I'd planned to try some fields and hills tomorrow but seeing the amount of rain we are having this evening, I don't think there is any chance of that... oh dear.

The flat park run was great, I managed to run all the way! I didn't do one today as I had a sudden urge to run yesterday and did that instead.

It's quite liberating isn't it no running to a time etc. First one I did post grad, I did with my brother that was visiting and on a route I knew so I knew where to run too and did that without looking at watch.

They need to develop wellie running shoes...

Hi Stratters

Well done for getting back on track 👏👏

Know what you mean about the support it is amazing.

We have now moved round to Santiago de la Ribera, Murcia for a couple of weeks. Just read that this Feb was warmest in Spain for 70yrs!! March seems even warmer so far.

I tend to fall out of bed and into my kit at 7 a.m. coz I melt in the heat. I am a creature of habit and routine so it's every other day for me.

Now using Map My Whatever on a 5min delay, for warm up, and giving me feedback every 5 mins. It seems to be working. Mixing 2 x 30 mins and 1 actual 5k. Also did one session of HIIT - get me! I just could not get into it one morning so walked a bit and then really ran for 30 secs with a fast walk to recover and repeated about 5 times, then fast walked 5k home.

It felt great so might build that in once every couple of weeks.

Keep up the good work and if we get round your way I will let you know and we can have a run together. Now that is something I never thought I would hear myself saying 👍

Wow! You have the bug!! Well done indeed and yes, isn’t the weather amazing?

Really happy to hear of another person that has discovered running as a great way of getting the exercise we all need .... and no gym fees!!

Yes - it would be great to meet a fellow “ex Couch” so do shout if you’re anywhere near Oliva - it’d be a pleasure to show you some lovely beaches and great post run refreshment stops!
