I didn’t know I would post like this......
Unfortunately that’s all this post has to do with the late, great Erol Brown.
After the mother of all colds (I’m talking proper full on flu) I was forced to lay off running and not complete week 5 (I might have mentioned that in a few posts over the weekend!) tonight I got back onto the tarmac. Here’s quick review, after I kissed the wife goodbye pre run:
Head: Right lads we are definitely well enough to get back out there.
Heart: Right you are, you can be boss tonight, I’m still a little tired.
Head: Just do your job Heart, I’ll take care of the everything else. Right you ‘orrible lot - roll call! Arms?
Arms: here, let’s do this!
Head: Lungs?
Lungs: Really? Now? Can’t we just have one more day off?
Head: Absolutely not, I’m telling him to get his stuff on, so pull yourself together Lungs, he’s going to need you tonight! Right then, Feet?
Feet: SIR, YES SIR!
Head: oh lovely lovely that’s what I like to hear! Legs?
Legs: No! We are not doing it!
Head: You bloody well are! You two are always the same! Never want to go faster than you have to!
Legs: We’re still tired, it’s not fair, you don’t have to lug him around all day!
Will Power: (in the best Sean Connery) Leave them to me shh-ir!
Head: Ok Will, over to to you. Hands start the C25K app W5R1 please and start Strava.
Hands: Done
Head: Right lads, here goes...
Laura: tonight you have 3 runs of 5 minutes with 3 minute intervals....
Will Power: Right legssh, move your bloody selves.
Legs: ok ok ok - stop going on!
(Disciples - how deep is your love)
Legs: ohhh we like this one, it’s not too fast
Laura: Stop running, well done, you’ve just run for 5 minutes.
Legs: Really? Oh wow, phew now we can go home!
Head: OMG!
Will Power: s’ok head, I got this!
Laura: Get Ready for your second run....
Legs: But we’re tired....
Will Power: Lungs? Do you have more to give?
Lungs: Aye Captain, I’ll see what I’ve got.
Laura: Well done that was your second run of 5 minutes....
Head: Well done everyone, great job, almost there, just keep walking 1-2-1-2-1-2 there you go.
Legs: Are we done yet? We can’t do any more, in fact we want to be a snail, you don’t need us....
Head: I know it’s hard legs, but he needs you now more than ever....
Legs: No, no, no and thrice no! Shan’t can’t & won’t!
Will Power: You flippin well are!
Legs: I want my mummy!
Will Power: DILLIGAF?
Laura: ..... final run, I’m going to count you down 3-2-1 off you go!
Lungs: If I give any more Capt’n he’s gonna blow!
Legs: Noooooooooo.........
Will Power: Mmmwwwaaaahhhaaaahhhaa
Legs: ooooooooooo.......
(50 Cent In da club playing dimly in the background)
Laura: 60 seconds to go....
Head: Come lads, don’t give up, one final push...
Legs: oooooooooo.....
Will Power: Shut up legs and JFDI!
Legs: (whimper)
Laura: Well done, you’ve just run for 15 minutes, now keep those legs moving and warm down....
Head: Great work lads, great work!
Will Power: I’m here all week, see you Friday!
Lungs: I hurt!
Legs: What day is it? Is it over yet?
Heart: What just happened?
Feet: Again again again!!
At this point it’s fair to say that I cried a bit. I was not confident of having the energy or lung capacity to get through it, but I went back to the roots.... breath 2,3,4 and so on. Even though I only did that run last week (Sunday) it feels like a month ago. You guys are great, I’ve read with envy and pride of completed R1’s 2’s and 3’s this week - well done to everyone. I’m on the way back, maybe not stronger lol, but I’m sure R2 on Friday will be a little easier. I even managed to maintain previous pace (not sure if that is fast or not!)
If my body could talk, I’m pretty sure the above is a fairly accurate representation of what would have been going on.... even with the Scottie reference!
We can do this, all of us - Resistance is futile!
