Resolution Run

When I started Couch to 5K my aim was to join a 5K Resolution Run in aid of the Stroke Association in Ipswich on February 24 - my husband had a massive stroke some years ago and we've had a lot of support from the Stroke Association.

The event fell on the day I would have been doing W8R2 and I run quite slowly, so I'm really not reaching 5k. Also, the route was two laps of Christchurch Park which is pretty hilly by East Anglian standards!

I ran almost all the first lap except for one bit which is so steep it was a struggle even to walk up it. I paused at the halfway point to make sure my husband was ok (the weather was so gorgeous he was sitting in his wheelchair watching us all) and then did the second lap where I walked up more of the hills. Boy I was hot (the photo is about the most unflattering selfie I have ever taken), but I got to the end and got my medal.

I was pretty much at the back of the runners, but well ahead of the walkers and the people who were doing a little jog now and then. Five minutes after I finished my 5k the serious runners were finishing 10k!

Anyway I raised over £500 and when I get to the end of Cto5K I'll definitely be looking at doing a park run or two....

Congratulations and very well done to you. Love your medal and you must feel very proud for achieving your target to run the event and donate a substantial amount for the charity.

I don’t know what your talking about. You look great in the photo. I look like my head is a beetroot after I’ve been running.

Well done again and you will love Parkrun.

Fantastic well done, you kept at it and that is far more important than pace anyday, and such a good cause.

Huge well done to you kalessin, fabulous run for a fabulous cause. Both you and your husband should be very proud.

I do my resolution run on Sunday, in memory of my dad who sadly did not survive his stroke, and a young friend who did survive his brain bleed earlier this year. So glad that your husband could be there with you.

Good luck uncle_wiggy (although I'm sure you don't need it) and hope you raise a decent total. I'm now up to almost £700 which make it all worthwhile. It did cause a bit of a blip in my Cto5k though - shows the importance of following the programme!

Well done, and you both look great. 🎉 Best reason I’ve seen yet for varying the Cto5k Plan. And a really good total for your charity. 👏🏼
